I'd been planning for a year to go to my daughter's in Florida for her birthday and thought I had it made when Hurricane Fiona went out to sea...
On Friday there were reports that another storm was brewing on the other side of Cuba. I looked at all the models...there was still time to change my flight, but if I did, I would miss my daughter's birthday. And I really wanted to be there, so prayed and kept my flight. I sensed God telling me, "Go. I have this."
Today is Monday. Ian is supposed to hit Florida sometime Thursday...The state is 371 miles wide. The storm is 450 miles wide, and even though it's supposed to hit north of where I am in West Palm Beach County, we will get rain and wind. So if I don't answer any of the comments you'll know the power isn't back on. :-)
So why would I fly into hurricane country? Good question. One I'm asking myself as I type. But not really. Like I said, it was very important for me to be here this week, and I have peace about it. We are inland, so there won't be a storm surge. Except the canals are already full, so there may be flooding. Besides, you know a hurricane will show up in a story in the near future--a writer wastes no experiences.
By the time you read this, the storm will have passed and everyone will be dealing with the aftermath. Please keep the people in the path of this storm in your prayers.
On another note, I had planned to write while I was in Florida since I'm getting behind on my next WIP. I'll wait for you to get up from laughing so hard you found yourself rolling on the floor...
Really, though. My daughter works, and my granddaughter is in school learning how to become a radiology tech, and the grands are in day care...It was reasonable to thinkI would get in quality writing time.
The first wrench in the plans came when I learned the grands were out Monday for a holiday. The second wrench came when my granddaughter had to study, leaving me to watch the kiddos...this for someone who is used to absolute quiet when she writes. I'll let you know in the comments how THAT worked out.
So what do you do when wrenches get thrown into your plans? Leave me a comment with your contact information and I'll enter you in a drawing for an audio book from my latest series.
Patricia,
ReplyDeleteI'm glad you were safe. I planned to write yesterday, but my kids were home sick. They were feeling better today, and I was able to work on some editing/writing. When plans change, I try to adapt, but if I get too stressed, then I try to pray about the situation.
Heidi
Thanks, Heidi! It wasn't too bad here in West Palm Beach! I always feel God will redeem the time when we get sidetracked by doing good. :-)

Thanks, BN. I'm leaving tomorrow for home so I'll get back in the routine soon!
DeleteI'm so glad you're all right, Pat!
ReplyDeleteHere I was worried about a hurricane and almost got in the middle of a tornado...
ReplyDeleteSo thankful y’all are okay!
ReplyDeleteIf I collected “wrenches “ I’d have a toolbox full.😂 I try to constantly remind myself that God’s not surprised and His plans are good.
