A story about secrets....what do you have in your backyard?

Got secrets? Everyone does. Dana Mentink here, and I so enjoyed writing about an enormous secret that changes the course of two family's lives. It all starts when five year old Alice goes missing. Fast forward twenty years and little Alice's necklace is found in an eagles nest. Intrigued? Here's the blurb.

Little girl lost

Ruby Hudson finds new evidence that could shed light on her childhood friend's disappearance. But she'll have to fight for her life to keep it out of the wrong person's hands. Cooper Stokes' brother is still the prime suspect, and as the cold case heats up, so do Ruby's forgotten feelings for Cooper. Ruby wants justice for her friend. Cooper wants to prove his brother's innocence. Despite being on opposite sides, they find themselves drawn to one another. But the deeper they dig into decades-old secrets, the closer they come to having to make a choice between family and love.

It was challenging to write a suspense about a crime that was thirty years cold. The trickiest part was including enough tension in the present to sustain the story. I suppose readers will be the judge as to whether or not I succeeded! Since the story takes place on a raptor sanctuary, I had a lot of fun learning about birds of prey. What an amazing feat of engineering our creator completed when he made birds!

Here is a link to some Amazon reviews of Hazardous Homecoming, if you're interested.

Here in my back yard we have these amazing white birds called kites. Their nickname is the angel hawk because they can more or less hover in mid air, white wings fluttering. So what birds do you have in your neck of the woods? Comment with your birdie visitors and I'll select one person to win a signed copy of Hazardous Homecoming.

  1. We have a ton of crows and the occasional hawk. We have some small birds that sometimes build their nests in our property, but I don't know what they are.

  2. Grackles. LOTS of Grackles, and a few Mockingbirds. By the way, there's a review up for Hazardous Homecoming on the Suspense Sisters Review page. How's that for perfect timing! Whoop!

  5. I have a couple pairs of Cardinals that like the berries on our front trees. So pretty. Once in a while a Woodpecker will chase of the sparrows...
