WHAT'S HOT in Christian Mystery and Suspense

Marji Laine here.

Ohhh! This sounds like it has a great mystery attached! I'm so in!

Wild Storm

by Kendra Cross

A deadly storm. A relentless killer. And the truth that could destroy everything she thought she knew.

Eliza Brennan has spent years leading search and rescue missions in the Colorado backcountry—saving strangers in impossible conditions.

But she couldn’t save her mother.

When a brutal winter storm traps hikers in the mountains, Eliza and her team race against time to bring them home alive. But the rescue turns deadly when it becomes clear someone is hunting victims in the storm—and the mountain isn’t the only threat closing in.

Photojournalist Nate Carson has seen the worst the world has to offer. War taught him to rely on facts, not faith—and to keep his distance from anything that might matter. But when he’s caught in the same storm Eliza is battling, their paths collide in ways neither of them expected.

As the danger escalates, Eliza uncovers something even more chilling—a clue hidden in her mother’s old journal that suggests her death wasn’t an accident.

Now the storm is closing in. The killer is getting closer. And the truth Eliza has been searching for might cost her everything.

Because in Brennan Ridge, the past isn’t buried…

And some secrets refuse to stay lost.

A gripping Christian romantic suspense novel about courage, redemption, and learning to trust when everything is on the line.

WHAT'S HOT in Christian Romantic Mystery and Suspense

Marji Laine here.

This book is intriguing! And it has some of my favorite things: faith, romance, dogs, and suspense!

Sheltered from the Storm
by Abigail Stone

A missing woman. A burned packing plant. A storm rolling in fast. And a golden retriever who refuses to leave the trail.

Naomi Hart has built her life around protecting the vulnerable, but one past failure still follows her into every crisis. When Lily Conway disappears during a Mercy Harbor storm evacuation, Naomi cannot shake the fear that history is repeating itself.

Jonah Reed knows what it costs to lose someone in a storm. Controlled, guarded, and quietly distant from the faith he once knew, he has survived by never letting anyone close enough to become another person he could fail.

Then Scout, Lily’s golden retriever, finds a clue no one else noticed — a trail leading from the shelter toward a burned packing plant and a dangerous network with connections far beyond Mercy Harbor.

As Naomi and Jonah follow Scout through ash, rain, hidden records, and rising danger, they uncover a truth powerful men are desperate to bury. But the closer they get to Lily, the more the storm closes in — and the more Naomi and Jonah must learn that courage does not mean carrying fear alone.

Sheltered from the Storm is a clean Christian romantic suspense novel with a missing-person investigation, storm danger, a loyal rescue dog, a protective hero, a determined heroine, faith under pressure, and a complete happily-ever-after.

REVIEW: The World's Worst Detective Ever series by Christy Barritt

Marji Laine here.

You know, when I told Nancy Mehl what I was reviewing this week, her reaction was that she loved the series title. I have to confess, the series title was the reason I picked up the first book of this series.

What a delight. With a title like THE WORST DETECTIVE EVER, I knew the main character couldn't take herself too seriously. And Joey Darling (yes, that's the characters name) delivers! Straight out of Hollywood as the star of the hit detective series, "Relentless," Joey struggles with people constantly believing that she's that main character, Raven Remington, the perfect (always right, always catching the bad guys) detective.

But between the last filming of "Relentless" and chapter one of the first book, Joey has been almost killed, divorced by her husband, and left penniless after paying off all the man's debts. She moves across the country to where her dad was last seen, getting a job as a hair stylist from an old family friend, and attempting to put the meager pieces of her life back together. And, in hopes that somehow, she'll be able to find her now-missing father.

She immediately gets off on the wrong foot with the police detective in town, Jackson Sullivan, and finds a friend in her next-door neighbor, surfer/realtor/masseuse Zane Oakley.

I LOVE the names of these characters! Where did Christy Barritt come up with them???

I also love the way she weaves the stories together. Each book contains a stand-alone mystery, but there are over-arching stories that go for three and four books at a time. And of course, there is the romance and a plethora of characters from her past who come in and out of the stories.

Then there is the fan group that keeps setting her up to "solve" mysteries as the actress who had played Raven Remington should be doing. The person or people behind her "biggest fans" are twisted and downright dangerous. And they also come in and out of the different books.

Something else that I love about these is the character's sense of humor. She is often comparing something she witnesses to the plot of an old movie or television show. Or she compares the people she sees to high profile actors or characters. Hubby and I love listening to the books on road trips and often have to pause the playback to belly-laugh over a one-liner or the crazy situations in which she finds herself.

But don't think these aren't serious mysteries with plenty of danger involved. I haven't been able to figure out all of them, but the clues are there. The mysteries are tight. The murders are real, and the villains are desperate. And despite Joey's excellent acting skills, she's not the detective that Raven Remington is. Let's just leave it at that!

If you like a little serving of light-heartedness with your mystery, you're going to love these books! And there are thirteen of them to love! The first was released almost 10 years ago, but book thirteen was just released last year. Apparently, I'm not the only one who loves these books!

Here's the list of the books (along with some side books) in order:
READY TO FUMBLE, REIGN OF ERROR, SAFETY IN BLUNDERS (Book bundle 1)
JOIN THE FLUB, BLOOPER FREAK, FLAW ABIDING CITIZEN (Book bundle 2)
GAFFE OUT LOUD, JOKE AND DAGGER, WRECK THE HALLS, GLITCH AND FAMOUS (Book Bundle 3)
NOT ON MY BOTCH, ONE HIT BLUNDER, and THE FAUX MUST GO ON.

In addition, there is RELENTLESS: A RAVEN REMINGTON NOVEL that is set up after BLOOPER FREAK. There is also a crossover books involving Joey, the police chief Cassidy Chambers from Barritt's Lantern Beach series, and Gabby St. Claire Thomas from the Squeaky Clean Series. This one, THE CRIME OF OUR LIVES, isn't really connected to any of the timelines from the actual series they cross, but it is suggested to come after NOT ON MY BOTCH before the last two and most recent Joey Darling books were released.

Here's a little more about book 1, READY TO FUMBLE:

I'm not really a private detective. I just play one on TV.

Joey Darling, better known to the world as Raven Remington, detective extraordinaire, is trying to separate herself from her invincible alter ego. She played the spunky character for five years on the hit TV show Relentless, which catapulted her to fame and into the role of Hollywood’s sweetheart.

When her marriage falls apart, her finances dwindle to nothing, and her father disappears, Joey finds herself on the Outer Banks of North Carolina, trying to piece her life back together away from the limelight. A woman finds Raven—er, Joey—and insists on hiring her fictional counterpart to find a missing boyfriend. When someone begins staging crime scenes to match an episode of Relentless, Joey has no choice but to get involved.

Joey’s bumbling sleuthing abilities have her butting heads with Detective Jackson Sullivan and kindling sparks with thrill-seeking neighbor Zane Oakley. Can Joey channel her inner Raven and unearth whodunit before she ends up totally done in? And where is her father anyway? Can she handle fame or is disappearing into obscurity the wiser option?

--

Oftentimes, I am wary of reading mystery and suspense mysteries late into the night because they'll keep me up. That warning HOLDS TRUE for this series... but not for the reason you might think. This is no thriller, but not only will the unexpected humor keep you laughing, it might very well keep your household awake as well.

Am I gushing? I'm probably gushing. But this series is stellar! Excellent mysteries. Excellent characters. Excellent engagement, dialogue, action, personalities.

This series is pure excellence!

When was the last time you read a series that was truly excellent? One book? Maybe, But to keep up that high standard book after book is nothing short of amazing. I'd like to hear about your experiences! Comment below with an excellent book or series and don't forget to leave your email address. One of you just might win an e-copy of READY TO FUMBLE!

I hope you LOVE it!

DANGEROUS SPRING

by Roxanne Rustand

From USA Today best-selling author Roxanne Rustand comes another heartwarming, character-driven, small-town romance in her popular Northern Pines series. This is a clean, faith-friendly romance with a light touch of suspense.

Ex-rodeo cowboy Connor Rafferty is a desperate father, stranded with a dead truck and his last fifty dollars. He must reach Detroit before his ex-wife and her abusive boyfriend vanish again with his son. Five years in prison for her lies cost him everything. Now, time is running out.

Keeley is barely holding her antique shop together after her employee quits on the eve of tourist season. She needs safe help—not a scarred stranger with secrets…and eyes she can’t ignore.

Connor asks for a few days’ work. No charity. Just a chance.

Keeley knows better than to trust him—but with customers lined up outside her door, she tentatively says yes.

If he’s telling the truth, his child is in danger.

WHAT'S HOT in Inspirational Mystery and Suspense

Marji Laine here.

This sounds like an emotional and heart-warming suspense! I'm intrigued!

Trace
by Kari Trumbo

Trace has seen it all . . . except success and love.

He's done the training. He's tried to fit in. He even had to watch the woman he loves marry another man. Sometimes life isn't fair. When he completes his training, it seems like things might turn around, until his boss finds out Trace went behind his back to get an endorsement from someone else. Now, his new career is at risk. One job. That's all he gets to prove himself.

Lupe Pena is hiding in plain sight from her father. He's threatened her multiple times and now, he wants to marry her off to a man in El Salvador, just to be rid of her. All she can figure is that she reminds him too much of her mother, who died in childbirth. Life hasn't been easy, but she will not leave the only home she's ever known so he can be comfortable.

When she hires the Northern Guardians, she isn't sure about the young man they assign to her. He's only three years older than her and has a temper like her father. But he channels it for good, not evil. Can she learn to trust him, and can he manage the anger that seems to take over when things don't go right? Or will Lupe's father succeed in sending her far away where he doesn't have to think about her anymore?

If you're looking for a story of transformation, love and forgiveness through the love of Christ (all wrapped in a heart-pounding suspense), read on!

WHAT'S HOT in Inspirational Mystery and Suspense

Marji Laine here.

I'm always interested when Christy Barritt has a new release! She is definitely one of my faves and this one looks amazing (and it has a beautiful dog involved!

Trailing Justice
by Christy Barritt

She hiked into the remote forest . . . and hasn’t been seen since.

Prosecutor Kori Hutchins has spent her career making sure justice is served. But when her sister vanishes in the mountains of Blue Ridge Hollow, her courtroom skills mean nothing. There’s no evidence, no witnesses, and no one willing to listen . . . until park ranger Wyatt King and his search and rescue dog, Thunder, step in.

Wyatt knows these mountains—and their dangers. But what begins as a search for a missing hiker quickly turns into something far more sinister. The clues don’t add up, and the trail twists in ways it shouldn’t. As a brutal blizzard barrels toward the hollow, time is running out.

Out in the wilderness, justice is hard to find—and far more dangerous to chase. Because Mackenzie’s disappearance isn’t just a mystery. It’s a warning.

And someone will do anything to make sure the truth stays hidden.

WHAT'S HOT in Inspirational Suspense and Mystery

 Marji Laine here.

This one certainly has elements that I love. Particularly a veteran hero!

Saving Grace: A Christian Romantic Suspense (The Southern Knight Protectors Series Book 2)

by Madison Love (Author)

The man she left behind is now her only hope of staying alive.

Grace Atwood vanished from my life nearly three decades ago, leaving me heartbroken on the courthouse steps. Now, she’s back—using a pen name, hiding from an unknown enemy, and asking for my help. As a journalist who witnessed the murder of a whistleblower, she’s seen too much. And someone is trying to make sure she stays silent.

As a former Air Force Pararescueman turned elite protection specialist for the Southern Knights, I never thought I’d see Grace again—let alone be the one assigned to protect her. When our undercover mission takes us to Duskhaven, a sleepy small town with explosive secrets, we pose as husband and wife. Our goal: infiltrate Noctira Weapons Systems, a local militia, and a community that doesn’t take kindly to outsiders.

Living under the same roof, working side by side, we discover that the embers of our past still burn bright. But trust is fragile, and forgiveness doesn’t come easy—especially when lives are on the line. With a growing conspiracy threatening national security and shadowy enemies watching our every move, our rekindled bond will be tested. It’s either going to break or be forged in fire.

When bullets fly and betrayals cut deep, we must rely on more than our instincts—we’ll have to lean on God’s guidance, the team of Southern Knights, and each other. Because the only thing more dangerous than uncovering the truth... is losing a second chance at love.

Perfect for fans of romantic suspense, this novel features heart-pounding action, emotional depth, and unshakable faith, delivering a thrilling ride that focuses on mercy and grace. This is a clean, kisses-only book free from cursing or promiscuity.

Book Review: JACK by Susan May Warren

Marji Laine here.

I know this series is from last year, but I've only just found it! I'm SO becoming a huge fan of the Minnesota Kingstons!

Usually I have my book reviews planned in advance, but I couldn't decide on this one. Then I spotted the cover of JACK. (I am a sucker for a pair of sensitive eyes.) I've read Susan May Warren's books before. (There is a reason why she's an award-winner, a best-seller, and a highly-acclaimed writing coach!) Most of what I'd read before were romances, heartwarming and life-changing with huge obstacles to overcome, but not mystery or suspense novels.

I was delighted to find that this one has both a mystery and suspense. In fact, she now has so many suspense novels. You can bet I'll be enjoying a LOT of these series!

JACK the first epic book of the Minnesota Kingstons, so I expected to have a lot of introductions. I didn't expect to get the feeling like many things had already happened. The author has done an amazing job of building in-depth back stories, and some of them have even been previously published in another series. I did a little investigating and the Alaska Air One Rescue books are a prelude to this series. I know there are at least a few characters that are shared between them.

Something unique: (at least to me) this book started with a male perspective. The hero and heroine (Jack and Harper) share the point of view, but it was so interesting seeing the layout, the initial information, from a his-perspective instead of a hers. And I also loved getting into his head. Being the oldest in his family, he made a problem that brought conflict in before the first page of this book. Going back home to a Minnesota winter, for his sister's wedding was an issue before he ever got there. Conflict and tension was on every page even before the suspense started.

Something refreshing: (at least to me) these characters had a realness about them. Especially their mistake and their guffaws. Not telling a lie, I was belly laughing during the dance practice! Seriously, Jack? That's the best you could come up with?? Oh, you have to read what he said!

Something heartwarming: (at least to me) I love the family dynamic in this story. Susan May Warren didn't just fill out the characters of Jack and Harper. Each family member has a distinct personality. Each has an opinion of Jack, particularly when it comes to the dispute that he brought to the family before the book started. Some are still ticked. Some are slightly resentful. Some are completely over it. And some, like Jack's dad, have special moments. (Yes, there were tears that I had to wipe away!)

When the ignition to the suspense did happen, the elements were all there. Characters with something to hide. People with a past. Plenty of motives all around, and a missing bridesmaid who typically has her own way of doing things. Was she really "missing" or just on a lark? It was hard to say, until Jack and Harper started trying to track her and found more danger than answers.

And the subtlety of the romance of these two is palpable. They are magnets that teeter back and forth between attracting and repelling. Definite chemistry there.

This isn't a thriller by any means, but there is the impending danger, the ticking clock as it were, that is in all suspense books. And I LOVED it! Jack and Harper will stay with me. I'm so ready to pick up the next book in this series and hunker down for another brilliant story. And yes, I will review it.

This book's subtitle is: The grumpy tracker. The girl he never forgot. A missing bridesmaid and a second chance he doesn't deserve. Here's a little more about the book:

Her secret blew apart his life—and now she needs his help? If only he could say no…

Ten years should be long enough for Jack to forget the girl-next-door, his kid sister’s bestie and the woman—no, girl—who derailed his life. Now, he sort of likes his loner world as a missing person’s tracker. Well, mostly. But of course, when he returns home for his sister’s wedding, there she is…
Nope, not forgotten at all.

Of course Jack the Grump has shown up for his sister’s wedding, and by the way he looks at Harper, um, clearly her sins aren’t forgiven. So what—she’s sooo over her best-friend’s brooding, dark oldest brother. Really.

Then a bridesmaid goes missing.

And sure, Harper is a journalist who knows how to sniff out truth, but the clock is ticking and there’s only one person who can help…Perfect. No problem. She’s not going to fall for her childhood crush again. Promise.

Yes, Jack can admit that Harper’s not the girl he used to call Pigtails anymore. She’s all grown up…but he’s not going to get burned again. Still, what’s a guy going to do?

So, find her missing friend, get the bride down the aisle and ditch town before they find themselves in over their heads…or worse.

Dead.

Jack is a best friend’s brother, childhood crush, grumpy-to sunshine, sweet but sizzly romantic suspense about second chances and finding the family you always wanted…

I was ready to pick up Conrad, book 2 of this series, but I think I'm going to go back in time and do the Alaska Air One Rescue series. I think that starts things from the beginning. And if they are anything like JACK, I'll be happily reading for the next several months. :)

In a recent book you've read, or maybe one you're reading now, what was something unique, something you didn't expect, that happened? Share in the comments and you just might win an e-copy of COUNTER POINT, book 1 from my Heath's Point Suspense series.

But I do hope you'll pick up a copy of JACK, and I hope you LOVE it!

BOOK REVIEW: DARK DESIGN by Suspense Sister Nancy Mehl

Marji Laine here.

What a way to start a suspense! It requires the reader to put on the skin of a crazed serial killer and read his twisted thoughts. This story starts out creepy-squared!

This is an intensive psychological thriller with layers of developments. The characters are, as with the first book in this series, very real with their own needs for growth, weaknesses, and areas of expertise. They wrestle with their own shattering issues, with glimpses of hope that they can overcome their difficult pasts.

Technically, this is an “Erin Delaney” mystery, but her friend Kaely Quinn-Hunter, shoulders some of the story’s perspective. Kaely’s husband Noah and Erin’s friend Adrian fill out the main character cast. Each has a strong personality, needs, goals, and obstacles, making the perspectives unique and deep.

And the mystery is disastrously twisted, affecting characters in two different locals at the same time. How does a shooting in a tiny town in the Smokey Mountains connect with a missing woman in a suburb of Washington DC? See if you can figure that one out before the experts do!

And while you’re at it, take a peek on into the life of a best-selling author. Nancy Mehl paints an extraordinary story with DARK DESIGN. Here’s a little more about the book:

As she began to lose consciousness, she realized that she'd just made a very serious mistake.

She tried to call out for help, but she couldn't see anyone on the shore.

There was no one to save her.

When Erin Delaney learns that a serial killer has mimicked the murder portrayed in her bestselling novel, she joins her friend Kaely Quinn-Hunter, a former FBI profiler, in Virginia. Their reunion, only a few months after fending off an eerie killer in the woods of Tennessee, is bittersweet, as Kaely has been tasked by the FBI to recruit Erin's help to identify a suspect. The FBI's team is stumped by the murderer who re-creates killings from the books of multiple authors, with only ominous notes left behind. As Erin is drawn further into the web of fear and chaos, Kaely begins to fear for Erin's safety.

On top of tracking down a murderer, Erin must shoulder the weight of a haunted past and claims that she stole the plot of her novel from one of her sources. As she struggles on multiple fronts, the enemy looms closer than ever--and Erin's life hangs in the balance.

"Readers will be riveted by this non-stop, twisty thriller."--Elizabeth Goddard on Shattered Sanctuary

Bestselling author Nancy Mehl threads a plot of police investigations and shadowy evidence with heart-drumming suspense in this clean, high-stakes read that will thrill fans of Lynette Eason and Elizabeth Goddard.

THIS WEEK ON SUSPENSE SISTERS

We have exciting things planned for you this week on the Suspense Sisters!

On Tuesday, Suspense Sister Mary Ellis will tell us what’s hot in inspirational suspense and mystery.

Wednesday, we’ll hear from author Marji Laine who will be reviewing DARK DESIGN by Suspense Sister Nancy Mehl.

She's giving away a free copy of her book, Grime Beat, to one of our reader. Here's a little about that book.

Her best friend missing, every cell in Dani Foster's body screams something is wrong.

Crime scene cleaning is the perfect job for witness-relocated Dani Foster. But her orders to maintain a low profile and stay out of trouble mean little when her friend goes missing. Suspicions point to the handsome crime scene specialist, Jay Hunter, but he's also the only person willing to help Dani. Dare she trust him even when lies seem to surround him?

Dani amuses Jay. But her latest moves have thrust her into serious danger. As he learns more about her circumstances, the stakes rise until her very life is on the line. He has no time or inclination for romance, but this girl needs him, and she seems to have no one else. How can he turn his back?

Dani's troubles and Jay's attraction are only just beginning!

This is the first episode of this Christian Mystery and Romance series set in Dallas, Texas. If you like a twisted mystery amped up with a healthy dose of suspense, you need to read this book!

"Great dialogue and characters leap off every page in this fast-paced story-line of the first novella in the Grime Fighters collection."—Elizabeth Goddard, author of BURIED, UNTRACEABLE, and BACKFIRE

On Friday, Suspense Sister Kristen Hogrefe Parnell talks about her "bristly" heroine Avery in Watch Your Back. And now that Watch Your Back is available in audio book, she's giving away a free audio copy to one lucky reader! Here's a little about the book!

You can’t watch your own back.

Private Investigator Avery Reynolds leads the charge to expose Tampa's supposedly “extinct” mob. The crime boss responsible for her foster brother’s death is within her grasp—until she hits a wall in the form of Ethan Bridger, a Coast Guard veteran who unknowingly derails her sting operation. When the elusive “Big Eddie” comes out of hiding, he targets their mutual friends about to tie the knot.

BOOK REVIEW: DANGEROUS PAST by Suspense Sister Roxanne Rustand

Marji Laine here.

Last week, our Suspense Sister, Roxanne Rustand, released book nine of her Northern Pines Suspense Series. I realized that I’ve never gotten to read one of her books, so I quickly rectified that situation. I didn’t want to start at book nine, so I picked up book one. I’m so glad I did.

Roxanne reminds me of one of my all-time favorite authors, Phyllis A. Whitney. Whitney had a habit of setting a heroine in the midst of unknown hostility where unexplained events covered intentional attacks. Her writing, if memory serves, was either from an omniscient (narrator-type) viewpoint or only from a single point of view, bu
t as the stories progressed, attacks grew more pronounced and more dangerous.

Roxanne, thankfully, uses a dual point of view between the hero and the heroine and even throws in a few other characters from time to time to give a more colorful background. But in the same way as Whitney's heroines, Lauren, faces seemingly inescapable problems.

This is an emotionally-charged story with a good amount of tension and rich characters. It adds multi-layered characters, Lauren and Michael, with strong back-stories, reasonable reactions, and even defining quirks. Amidst past problems and their current hopes and goals, both Michael and Lauren find joy, laughter, and make embarrassing and even heart-breaking mistakes.

A troubled young daughter and an entourage of various pets add to this heart-warming story. Even the goat has a personality!

Dangerous Past has a mild level of suspense, particularly at the beginning as the backdrop of the story is laid with the initial interactions of the characters. Michael and Lauren, though, with their various secrets, hidden needs, and quiet desperation, intrigued me. The story itself amped up its flavor of suspense throughout, and the final scenes satisfied completely, leaving me eager to read more of this series.

Here’s a little more about this story.

She needs to hide from her past. He only wants to be left alone. What could possibly go wrong?

A DISILLUSIONED ATTORNEY
Michael is searching for a quiet life in a small town. Alone. When his elderly, vagabond Aunt Bertie announces her plans for yet another summer in Europe, he agrees to stay at her home on the shore of Briar Lake. It’s perfect timing, while he hunts for a house to buy and a location for his law practice.

Perfect---until he meets a flamboyant stranger at Bertie’s front door, who refuses to let him inside. A very nervous one, at that.

A WOMAN WITH A TROUBLED PAST
A housemate? No way. Bertie’s menagerie is of epic proportions—thanks to the homeless animals she constantly adopts. Lauren promised to move in and care for them this summer. It’s a promise she cannot break to the woman she has loved as an "extra grandmother" since childhood—even if she fears this forced proximity to a man who could uncover her darkest secrets.

But there’s another problem… one that could end her life.

BOOK REVIEW: On the Edge of Trust by Suspense Sister Patricia Bradley

Great mystery in this excellent book, and a GREAT romance!

Patricia Bradley has hit another homerun with her 18th publication. This one returns to Logan Point, the setting for her first series, and this place holds both a comfortable homeyness and intense danger.

It also has some delightful folks who speak with a relaxed drawl and an encouraging tone.

Ah, and then there is the tension... Well that begins with an attack at the very beginning of the book, at the scene of a situation that brings new meaning to the word stressful. Between that event, and the appearance of a young man at the scene of a murder, this story's twisted wheels begin turning.

Our main character, Tori Mitchell, deals with the popularity of a true crime podcast that seems to collect enemies, the pain of tragically losing a loved one, the trap of addition, and the emotions that are entangled with all of these situations. She also deals with memories of a summer crush and the return of that man, shocking her with feelings she'd forgotten.

And then there's the shooter. Oh, and the fire. Yeah, the threats and intensity of the suspense keeps rocking with so many suspects and so many possible motives for the attacks Tori experiences.

Scott Sinclair, the source of her long-ago crush, as a temporarily off-duty FBI undercover agent, wavers between thoughts that he is the target of the shooter and concern for a woman who had touched his heart a decade before. He wasn't about to take Tori's safety for granted, though. The two of them are thrust together as he struggles to keep her safe while she tries to figure out who is trying to kill her.

Is it someone involved with the murder blamed on her nephew?

Is it one of the physical abusers of the women she'd helped to escape?

Does it have something to do with past murders solved or maybe it's something else?

This mystery checks all the boxes! Here's a little more about it.

Sometimes the closer you get to justice, the deadlier it becomes

When decorated FBI undercover agent Scott Sinclair suffers a gunshot wound in his right arm, the injury threatens his future career in the field. He is determined to regain his former job by training himself to use his left hand, and failure is not an option--especially when he's unofficially pulled into an investigation.

Tori Mitchell is a passionate crime reporter and podcaster who has dedicated her life to seeking justice. Her relentless pursuit of the truth has freed a wrongfully convicted man from prison, making Tori an enemy of the true killer. When her nephew is accused of a different murder, nothing can stop her from getting involved and clearing his name.

Soon after Tori and Scott reconnect on the case, shots are fired, leaving them to wonder which of them has been targeted. As the investigation intensifies, so do the threats and the sparks between them, but Tori's doubtful if she can extend grace and trust to Scott. They'll have to combine their skills and rely on their growing relationship to outsmart the killer.
