Win a free book! Roxanne Rustand

Do you have a favorite destination that you'd like to visit often? Or a recurring event you look forward to?

Writers can end up being a solitary lot--even in the midst of raising a family and holding a "day job." For those of us who write full-time and spend endless hours huddled over a computer in an office, that can definitely be true.

So, when an annual writer's conference like Novelists Inc. comes along, it's a joy to see so many other writers, exchange the latest industry information, and attend wonderful workshops.

As always, I attended in late September, at the Tradewinds Resort on St. Pete's  Beach in Florida. This is a sunset along the beach.  💕

Even traveling back and forth from the Upper Midwest was so much fun, just having that extended time to talk with a friend who is also a writer.

I always take intensive notes at this conference and type them up at home. I ended up with 61 typed pages this year! Listening, taking notes, and then transcribing them helps me process all of that information, because I'm not an auditory learner.

Without the tactile process of writing and then typing notes, the information flits away like butterflies. 😁  What type of learner are you?

One more photo from the conference: do you recognize any of these writers?

Do you have a regular event or trip that you love taking year after year? I'd love to hear about it!

Last month, I had a new release, Dangerous December, which is for sale on Amazon HERE.

It's a heartwarming, character-driven Christian light romantic suspense, with an unexpected second chance at love.

It's FREE on Kindle Unlimited(KU) or just $4.99 to buy.

Leave a comment, and you will be in a drawing for a free e-copy of my Christian romantic suspense, Dangerous Storm.

Wishing you all my best for a beautiful autumn!

Roxanne Rustand

  8. As an annual event, we love going to photo conventions. As we are both amateur photographers, we love learning from the experts, learning new techniques, getting new ideas and seeing what's new equipment wise. We meet up with old friends, make new friends, have a good time and learn more about how to capture great photos.
One thing we love on an every other year adventure is packing up cameras and suitcases and taking off to mark off items on our bucket list. An example, last year we went north going into Canada before turning west. Then we headed to Alaska (as an Army brat it was my almost home state) were we seen lots of critters (like bears catching and eating salmon) and landscapes. When we left there, we went down the west cost to see the redwood trees. I'd lived in CA as a child and never got to see them. Then it was over to Utah to see all the national parks. We had a trip planned to go there when Covid hit causing up to cancel. When we got home, we had travelled 8,500 miles marked on the car, but we had marked several items off the list with happy satisfaction. It usually takes a year to plan our 30 day trips. This year was our year to stay at home, enjoy the critters at home and to have the vegetable garden, which you can't have if you aren't home to tend to it. Where will be go next? Not sure, but we will decide and start planning soon. :)
Sadly, I'm not entering the contest. Can't wait for the opportunity to read DANGEROUS STORM, which is on my TBR list, but due to medical issues, I can only read paperbacks.

    1. What an amazing trip, at 8,500 miles! It must be fun to go on such long and fun adventures.
This past year Amazon changed it policies regarding paperbacks, which makes it hard for readers. If an author publishes a paperback, they don't receive a penny if the book is priced less than $9.00. That seems like highway robbery to me. It doesn't seem fair to readers, and I wouldn't expect anyone to pay that much. What do you think?

As an alternative, I've been considering putting two books together in book bundles, so then it would be a better deal for readers at TWO books for $9.00. What do you think?

  9. My favorite trip was to Niagara Falls on the Canadian side. My daughter and I stayed at Embassy Suites Tower. They are the only hotel with windows that open. We were way up and fell asleep to that beautiful sound.. Planning to go back May 2026. Thanks for asking and refreshing my memory. noregretsdj@aol.com

  18. Two favorite places for vacation. Ocean Shores, WA is less than a day away and enjoyable year round. A fun place with many fun, interesting small towns, small museums, wildlife opportunities, fun activities, and more nearby. Various festivals and events happen throughout the year.
Kauai, Hawaii is uncrowded, relaxing, fun, interesting. So many activities and attractions. So many different beaches. Welcoming atmosphere and people. Even peak summer was comfortable temperatures. Fell in love with it my first visit.

In answer to your other question, I am like you and have to take notes. I even take notes during the sermon at church. It helps me stay focused and remember better.
