Review of The Other Sister by Jessica R. Patch

I had the pleasure of receiving an advanced reader copy of The Other Sister from NetGalley, and let me tell you, this book far exceeded my expectations! I didn't read the back cover copy before starting the story like I normally do, so I began without any idea of the storyline. I've read quite a few general market thrillers recently, and this one held all the intrigue and suspense without the unnecessary gore, language, and spice I prefer to keep out of my mind.

Here is the back cover copy, so you can get a loose idea of the book's premise:

Charlotte Kane has always dreamed of a different life, one where she isn’t living paycheck to paycheck. An existence worlds away from the chaos of her own. Then her estranged mother dies, and Charlotte makes a stunning discovery—she has an identical twin who was given up for adoption.

Acelynn Benedict is polished, successful and seems to have everything Charlotte yearns for—a wealthy, doting family in Savannah, a handsome boyfriend, a great career. She’s just as surprised as Charlotte to learn she has a sister. But when tragedy hits and Charlotte is forced to assume Acelynn’s identity in a desperate moment, she uncovers something altogether darker…

No one in her sister’s life is quite who they seem to be. And every discovery leads Charlotte deeper into a web of deadly secrets. Charlotte may have wanted Acelynn’s life, yet now that she’s living it, she wants out. But if she reveals the truth about herself, it will mean returning to her old life—and she’s already a dead woman there.

From the first page to the last, The Other Sister kept me guessing. The cast of characters added so much room for suspicion, and the scenes from the past were both chilling and intriguing. While the story wasn't written with overtly Christian content, Biblical themes are woven throughout, adding hope, redemption, and light to the darker elements of the story. It even left me with moral questions that stuck with me for days after reading the last page.

So far, The Other Sister is my top read of 2025. If you enjoy psychological thrillers, I fully believe you will love this book.

  4. Thank you so much for your review and for the giveaway! This book was already on my TBR list, but now I want to read it more than ever! I LOVE psychological thrillers, but now that I belong to Lord Jesus, I prefer that they have a Christian base. To answer your question... so far, my favorite read of 2025 is "Celebrity Pastor" by Creston Mapes. It's keeping me up at night way too late because it's hard to put down. wileyluvstabby at comcast dot net

  6. I am in the middle of reading this now. I also got a copy from NetGalley but almost didn't read it after reading an excerpt of a scene from the past. I was afraid it would be too graphic for me. I was wrong. So far, I have been able to read before bed each night. As of today, my favorite read of 2025 has been an ARC of Echoes of Darkness by Darlene L Turner.
