Jaime Jo Wright is one of my favorite authors. Her Gothic dual-timeline stories keep me on the edge of my seat both while I'm reading them and when I'm waiting for her next release. I'm so excited to share her interview with all of you.
What are your favorite books from childhood, and why?
I was a huge reader of The Boxcar Children. I still love them. They’re simple in story but the mysteries
and adventures are so well done. I lived through every adventure and relived them over and over again!
Imagine you could form a dream book club– kind of like a fantasy football league. Which authors,
living or not, would you invite to be a member of the club? What made you choose those
individuals?
Well, anyone who knows me knows that my go-to must have member would be Edgar Allan Poe.
Because, his mind! I just want to live in it for a day. Was he a tortured soul? Probably. But he'd add so
much to a book club.
Aside from Eddie (that’s what I call him), I’d want Mark Twain because his books? The guy knew how to
have an adventure and write real world relationships. And then, Charles Dickens. Have you read his stuff?
Ahhhhh! I should probably add a woman. So of course, the Bronte sisters. I think they would understand
my darkness of heart. LOL
We all have projects that are a real bear! Which book of yours was the toughest to write? Why?
Definitely Night Falls on Predicament Avenue. That one was so clear in my mind and then I sat down to
write it and nothing made sense. LOL I felt like it was too simple and then I felt it was too complex. I had
a difficult time connecting to the characters. I think toward the end I figured my career as an author was
over. But you all had such pleasant and kind reviews, they bolstered my confidence.
Do you have any quirky writing habits?
I have a HORRIFIC habit of letting life happen and then finding myself down to the deadline wire. I write
fast, which thankfully is good, but then I’d like to be able to not write under a word count crunch too.
Maybe not quirky, but definitely not a habit I recommend copying if you're a writer.
If you could compare your latest novel to a tv show, what would it be?
The novel I’m current writing is Murder in the Building meets House on the Hill.
What can you tell us about your upcoming release?
My book that releases on Oct 1st is Specters in the Glass House. I'm not going to lie, I really love this one.
It is close to edging out The Curse of Misty Wayfair as my personal favorite. Of course, the heroine in the
past story line is named after my paternal grandmother, so there’s that bonus too.
Back cover blurb for Specters in the Glass House:
An ominous butterfly house. A sinister legacy. An untraceable killer.
In 1921, Marian Arnold, the heiress to a brewing baron's empire, seeks solace in the glass butterfly
house on her family's Wisconsin estate as Prohibition and the deaths of her parents cast a long
shadow over her shrinking world. When Marian's sanctuary is invaded by nightmarish visions, she
grapples with the line between hallucinations of things to come and malevolent forces at play in the
present. With dead butterflies as the killer's ominous signature, murders unfold at a steady pace.
Marian, fearful she might be next, enlists the help of her childhood friend Felix, a war veteran with
his own haunted past.
In the present day, researcher Remy Shaw becomes entangled in an elderly biographer's quest to
uncover the truth behind Marian Arnold's mysterious life and the unsolved murders linked to an
infamous serial killer. Joined by Marian's great-great-grandson, can Remy expose the evil that lurks
beneath broken wings? Or will the dark legacy surrounding the manor and its glass house destroy
yet another generation?
