I had planned to write this post yesterday...and should have. Today I'm writing it with a brace on my wrist, a very badly swollen right eye that is turning a glorious shade of purple trending to black...and an ice pack on said eye. And I have a television interview at the National Religious Broadcasters Conference...
So far I haven't canceled the interview or driving to Nashville to the conference tomorrow. Satan isn't winning this one! I did get checked out at the hospital and everything looked fine. One friend even suggested I do the interview and tell them they should see the other guy.
So you might be wondering how I happened to have a black eye--that's what happens when you kiss the concrete with your head. I actually stumbled over a curve when I was cleaning up my car at the car wash...note to self...watch where you're walking.
And while I know it was my fault for not watching, I think satan would be very happy for me not to attend the conference since the platform I'll be speaking on is Christian Fiction's Role in the World. My books often cross over to the general market and therefore they reach a wide audience with the Gospel.
There is a silver lining--I don't have to wear eye shadow today. So, if you happen to think about me, I could use prayer for divine appointments and wisdom about the interview....
Leave a comment -- tell me if you've ever had a black eye, and I'll enter you in a drawing for an audio copy of Fatal Witness! And if you've won a copy of Fatal Witness, I will get them out next week as soon as I turn in edits of Deadly Revenge, the next book in the series!
Praying for your interview to be a powerful witness. I’ve had a black eye a couple of times, but the worst was in 7th grade. I was leading a horse, and I’m not sure what happened next. I ended up in the ER with 17 stitches where I’d apparently been kicked in the back of my head and split the front when I hit the ground and two gloriously black eyes 😜becca12901 at yahoo
ReplyDeleteso sorry to hear about your fall. hope your interview goes well.
ReplyDeletePraying you get o the conference and feeling better.
ReplyDeleteYes I had a black eye about 16 years ago, when I was teaching grade three. My car door had blown open and the corner hit me, just to leave a big black eye. The following day, I had to meet the new principal who would be my superior the following .September. So embarrassing!
ReplyDeleteI have probably had a few black eyes over the years, but the most recent was in 2020. We were hiking, and I stepped on a rock that was barely sticking out of the ground. My foot slipped off the rock, and I fell face first on the corner of a larger rock and cut my eyebrow open. Praise God, I didn't have any severe injuries, and was able to hike out.

Praying for your conference and interview today!
Similar story. I was working background acting in California on a tv show. Stepped to the side to allow someone to pass, next thing I know I’m being helped up by the medic. My face was a mess, stitches, bruises, black eye and a slight fractured hand. My sweet husband caught me unawares and snapped a picture. Lol

Yikes! Hope it feels better quickly. I got a black eye when I was in college, working as a cook at a summer camp. I was playing a rough outdoor game at night with some of the counselors and took an accidental elbow to the nose. Trying to explain that to all of the camping 'adults' the next day wasn't fun.
ReplyDeleteYes, I have. Not a bad one but enough that I had to go heavy on the makeup to disguise it for a few days. cherierj(at)yahoo(dot)com
ReplyDeleteI'm so sorry for all you're going through; but hurray for not letting Satan win!! I've never had a black eye, but was stung by a bee on the cheek and both my eyes swelled up, so that kinda counts. :)

Yes, I have had a black eye, just one thank goodness! I was in the 5th grade, and we were running on the sidewalk at school. A girl stepped in front of me & I tripped. I fell flat on my face on the cement! Black eye & busted out a front tooth! But what I really remember about that accident is my handsome teacher carrying me to the nurse's office! Lol!
ReplyDeleteThat sounds quite painful but I’m glad you got it checked on! Mi have never had a black eye.

ReplyDeleteIt does seem that adversity rears its ugly head when one is about to make a meaningful impact for God. I simply say, “Get behind me, satan. I refuse to let him stop me. So glad you’re doing the same! God bless you!
ReplyDeleteNope never had. cheetahthecat1982ATgmailDOTcom

ReplyDeleteYes! I had a horrible black eye in the early 1980’s. When I was a camp counselor for 10 weeks, the counselor did a skit with a “comb choir.” As we were running down the aisle to exit, the girl in front of me started trotting backwards right in my head/eye. The crack was so loud, everyone stopped and gasped, as did both of us! I sported a black, green, purple eye for 10 weeks! Each week as I got a new group of girls, they looked at me in horror, until I could explain what happened. Oh my gosh, how it hurt. The only advantage was, I did a homeless skit each week for a mission emphasis on my work at the rescue mission. My black eye fit perfectly with my costume and the scene I was doing!
I am praying for you! Sorry about your injuries!
ReplyDeleteMy black eye story is when I fell trying to do a karate move, a backward spin kick or something, my foot got caught in my gi, and my glasses cut under my eyebrow, causing bleeding and later a black eye. My husband took me to the ER to get stitches, but we will never forget the evil eye the nurse gave him, thinking that my eye injury was the result of his fist! At least me wearing my karate outfit confirmed my story! I am thankful that nurses and other professionals are trained to look out for abusive situations.
Praying. My husband and I were picking apples and one jumped out of the picker and hit him in the eye. He carried a shiner.
ReplyDeleteOh, Patricia, I am so sorry. I did have black eyes after an auto accident. My husband fell in our kitchen last fall. He ended up with a black eye. Please take care of yourself. Sending love, hugs and prayers.
ReplyDeleteI have had three eye surgeries. So had a black eye. Never want to have eyelashes root burned again..I wanted to scream when the pit needle in each eye. Never again..make that five as cataract surgeries too. The same eye I had eyelashes burned because turning in and scratching eye Janecornea was worst. But that same eye had surgery to stop eyelid from turning inward two years before. Jane Squires
ReplyDeleteI have seizures, which often lead to head injuries, so I have had black eyes too many times to count. I hope that you are feeling better and that it is fading fast. Your book sounds so intriguing!
