Happy Valentine's Day! πππ
Are you planning on doing anything special? We gave up on going out for Valentine's dinner long, long ago because a crowded restaurant just isn't appealing, especially during the height of cold and flu season.
A good romantic movie always sounds nice, though. One of my favorites is the Colin Firth version of Pride and Prejudice, which I've watched too many times to count! Do you have some favorites to recommend? I would love to hear about them.
The weeks between Thanksgiving and New Year's always fly past. Does that happen to you, as well? We have four family birthdays that fall within two weeks of Christmas, making that time even more special. And busy!
But come January 1st, I always launch back into long days in my home office. The old saying "Do what you love, and you'll never work a day in your life" is so true. Writing fills me joy.
What fills you with joy?
One thing that doesn't fill me with joy is the endless task of trying to winnow through a lifetime of possessions.
Though we have no plans to move, I have a dream of downsizing. My husband is a minimalist, while I'm a very sentimental saver--probably stemming from being in a long series of foster care homes from birth until I turned three, and it's hard for me to "let go."
The book "The Gentle Art of Swedish Death Cleaning" inspires me, though.
Yet, despite never-ending trips to donate at our local Treasures (a shop that supports young parents), Olivet Mission (where everything is free for those in need), and Salvation Army, it seems as if I barely make a dent. Are you a saver too, or are you more of a minimalist? I could sure use your advice!
Last week, my husband and I went to a draft horse sale in Kalona, a very small town in an Amish and Mennonite area nearby.
The Amish help run the sale and are big sellers and buyers, though the license plates in the parking lot were from states coast to coast. It's always fun to watch the horses and exciting to hear the bids go up and up. Last year, a two-horse team went for $45,000!
Before I go, HERE'S A LINK to my new book, Deadly Evidence. It's free on Kindle Unlimited and at a bargain price otherwise. π

We don’t do anything on V-Day.Just another day to us.
ReplyDeleteI'm single, so no plans here. I did take myself out for breakfast π
ReplyDeleteWe also avoid the restaurant crowds! We will go out to eat tomorrow to celebrate. We don’t often eat out, so it’s a treat.

I will have to fine and read one of your books they look promising but as a church librarian I always read one or two books by any author new to me before buying and putting them in our library. I love the Suspense Sisters site as have found several (new to me) authors which make my visitors very happy too
ReplyDeleteGrowing up we use to go to farm auctions, and loved watching all the different animals and equipment and the prices paid.
ReplyDeleteHubby and I went out to eat at a local seafood restaurant. We also had leftover king cake for dessert when we got home. I also love the Colin Firth version of Pride and Prejudice. Sense and Sensibility is another good movie. Hope you had a Happy Valentine's Day! cherierj(at)yahoo(dot)com
ReplyDeleteWe enjoy sharing Valentine's Day cards; also maybe eating out, if it works out; and just remembering various memories associated with courting days, marriage, and our lives in ministry since then. . . Thanks for the opportunity to enter a giveaway! Would love to win a print copy, especially since you are a new-to-me author! Lual Krautter Email: krautter62520AToutlookDOTcom

I don't do ebooks but would love to win. A print. And I review Jane Squires
ReplyDeleteThe book sounds awesome! We went to dinner the day before so we didn't have to fight the crowds. Other than dinner we really don't do anything. I'm not much of a TV or movie watcher, except for old black & white movies.

Thanks for sharing! The book looks and sounds like one I’d really enjoy!

ReplyDeleteWe don't do anything for V Day either - we both hate shopping and crowded restaurants, so hard pass. Plus, we're nice to each other all year and just surprise each other whenever we want.
ReplyDeleteI LOVE purging possessions. But we move pretty often, so I definitely don't hang on to very many things. This last move, we got rid of hundreds of DVDs (the old school book binders of them and box sets, etc). We don't watch them and we usually just stream things anyway (or I get a DVD from the library). It was sad to let them go but it freed up a lot of stuff that we just moved from place to place.
Hubby worked and I cooked dinner and we ate at home.
ReplyDeleteOne of my favorite movies to watch is The Notebook for Valentine's Day!
ReplyDeleteWe did not do anything special. We just stayed home. I have low immunity. We just wished each other Happy Valentine's Day. I feel that everyday should be special when you are with someone you love.
ReplyDeleteThe cover of Deadly Evidence looks so interesting. Love the doggie in the picture. Sad to hear of your foster home childhood. Currently reading Nancy Mehl's Cold Threat and it has a strong root to foster home care.
ReplyDeleteLove the cover!
ReplyDeleteWe didn't do anything for Valentine's Day as we didn't have the spare funds. It was just another day. I haven't celebrated it in a very long time.
