Hello, Friends!
I hope you’re having a wonderful week! Here are a few questions my Facebook peeps asked for this Q&A post along with my answers.1. Do you ever have trouble sleeping or have scary dreams after writing an intense or frightening scene in your book?
That is a really great question. I don’t have much trouble falling asleep, thanks to ZzQuil, but I do have vivid dreams … usually scary ones. I tend to daydream about whatever book I’m writing, but my nighttime dreams often give me ideas for new stories. Not long ago, I had a dream that I’d been kidnapped by a man who wanted me to raise his little boy. Every time I did something the kid didn’t like, the dad would loom over me like he was planning to kill me with his hands. One day, I was putting canned vegetables in the basement and found a secret room. All over the walls of the room were women’s heads hanging up like those taxidermy deer heads. I’ll leave out the twisty ending, just in case I decide to use the dream as flash fiction someday. But yes, my writing does inspire some pretty unsettling dreams.
2. What location would you like to have a book you write set in?
Since I like to visit the locations in which my books are set, I’d have to say the U.K. It’s my dream destination. I’m a fan of strange history and like including historical tidbits into my stories, and England is steeped in bizarre happenings from the past.
3. How often do you converse about random serial killers? (Facts, history, etc.)
Oh dear. I’m reasonably sure my friends think I’m insane, since murderers crop up in most discussions. You’d be surprised how naturally Ted Bundy and John Wayne Gacy fit into normal conversation. Especially Ted. For whatever reason I talk about him a lot.
Comment below with the location you love most for books to be set in, and you may win a copy of The Purple Nightgown!
You and my husband could probably talk for hours about serial killers
ReplyDeleteI bet we could :D
DeleteFirst of all, I love that dream sequence and please please please write a book on it. It sounds yummy scary.
ReplyDeleteSecond of all,. Location of a story. Ireland comes to mind but also a Caribbean Island. It is easier to visit and all the old Sugar Mills lend to a great story place.
I plan to write that story in the not so distant future :)
DeleteA sugar mill would be a super cool setting for a story!
Amy, we could talk all day! lol I love to read books set in the mountains.
ReplyDeleteI just got back from the mountains, and they are so beautiful! A perfect setting for any genre of story :)
Deleteany setting

I honestly like most settings, but the isolated cabin in the wilderness is always good for me. I talk about killers a lot too.
ReplyDeleteWe are practically twins :)
DeleteI enjoy any setting that has a lot of suspense and a killer involved!

What's the point of reading a story without a killer?!? LOL :D
DeleteI always like a snowy mountain night.

Snowy mountains offer a lot of opportunities for stories to develop!
DeleteI perk up at the mention of my state, South Carolina, or my home state, Alabama. Still, any setting my wonderful Christian suspense authors like you are great with me!

Love setting in the mountains. We loved them so that when we decided to downsize and built our smaller dream home, we picked up and moved the Ozark Mountains - a place we often vacationed to. We love it!
ReplyDeleteI also love to read book in places we would love to go to. For me that's places of nature like national parks or places with fun things to see and critters to observe. Hubby and I love photography so landscapes and critters are always fun to take photos of.

I love settings in small towns and in the mountains, maybe in a cabin. I love to read outside in our back yard on our patio swing, listening to the birds singing and seeing the flowers . When it is cold I love to just curl up on the couch with my pup next to me and read a book. Have a great day and a great rest of the week and stay safe. aliciabhaney@sbcglobal.net
ReplyDeleteI'm happy to read a book set in any location, but bizarre works for me.
