A SPECIAL DAY TO GIVE THANKS by Mary Ellis

Happy Wednesday, readers,

As all of you know tomorrow is Thanksgiving and even though 2020 has felt like a roller coaster ride with one wheel off the track, I still have plenty to be grateful for.

~ Although recently I had a major health crisis, I wouldn’t have to look too hard to find people in worse health than me.

~ Although you might not be happy with the end result, the election is finally over and we don’t have to listen to hatred and mud-slinging each time we pick up the newspaper or turn on the TV.

-Although thousands of people are still dying from Covid-19, medical researchers have come up with a vaccine that’s ninety percent effective.

~Although my husband and I will dine alone on Thanksgiving, without the family and friends we love so much, at least we have each other and enough food to eat. Some people will be alone, some will go hungry.

~And although on Sunday we still worship in front of the TV instead of in our beloved country church, at least in this country we’re free to worship where and however we wish.

So tomorrow morning before I start thinking about breakfast or what I plan to wear I’ll get down on my knees and give thanks for my many blessings: I am still alive. I have someone who loves me, a roof over my head, and enough food to eat. And I have a Savior, Jesus Christ, the son of God, and He loves me even more than my earthly father did, and that’s a lot. No matter what happens between now and the end of the year or during 2021, God promises to never leave me or forsake me. And for that I’m eternally grateful.

Please leave me a comment about what you're thankful for this year. I will pick one winner to send a signed copy of Hiding in Plain Sight. US only. You must leave your address in order to win.

Happy Thanksgiving, everyone! ~ Mary Ellis,  and the Suspense Sisters

  2. Very thankful that hubby is retired and we CAN stay at home during these troubling times, Thankful that we planned well for our retirement and have a guaranteed income when so many are struggling to make ends meet. Thankful for a home for a roof over our heads and a place to lay our heads at night. Thankful that we took the plunge 4 years ago, sold out downsizing to move to our dream destination where we have many daily critter visitors that keep these two photography nuts happy and content during this extended stay at home phase we are in. Thankful that even with medical issues that we are both well and Covid free able to continue on living life as we know it. Always grateful for my Mom teaching, bless her heart in heaven, for teaching me throughout my to keep a well-stocked pantry and the ability to cook from scratch. Thankful for ample food when so many are wondering where their next meal is coming from. Thankful for a loving man that I love more with each passing day who makes the last 37 years seem like a twinkling of an eye and who I pray I have many more years to share with. And lastly but most definitely, I am grateful for my loving God who is walks with me every day holding me up when I don’t think I can make it.

May we all learn to be thankful for the little things as well as the bigger ones.

  3. My family has also had quite a year with two serious health diagnosis, my husband with an autoimmune and my 16 yo daughter with a congenital heart condition. But with diagnosis comes treatment. My daughter had successful heart surgery and my husband is seeing a rheumatologist next month! Along with those, we survived having C-19 in September without needing hospitalization! So this year, I'm SO grateful for health and healthcare, and Insurance!! 😁

  17. Each year at the Thanksgiving dinner table, each person there tells us what she/he is thankful for. It's always interesting and always enlightening. Yes, typically things like, "health" or "roof over our head" but often, too, the health of friends, the memory of loved ones who have passed, some silly simple thing (like my new stove this year) that has made life simpler. We do something similar on New Year's Eve when my husband and I list all the good things that happened during the year.
