Hi everyone. I hope you are all staying safe and taking care
or yourselves.
I don’t know about you, but as a reader, one of the saddest
things for me is when I reach the end of a really good book. I have to say
goodbye to all the wonderful characters I’ve met along the way. Great books
have a way of working their way into our hearts. The people we meet there
become like family. We want to know what happens to them after the author
writes, “the end”.
Another important part of a series is the location. As a
read the book, I have to love the location I’m reading about.
In my latest series entitled Courage Under Fire, the
location in the opening book takes place in Afghanistan, but quickly spans the
globe. Location is important, but it doesn’t have to be just one location.
Of course, the story itself must hold my interest. The
twists and turns, the dangers the hero and heroine must overcome to find their
happy ending has to be engaging.
And then comes the ending. . . or should I say, the ending “for
now”. I think what makes for a great series for me is when I finish book one,
there’s still room for more. And more.
What about you? What’s your favorite part about a series?
Comment for a chance to win an eBook copy of any of my Courage Under Fire
books. Please include your email. I’ll announce the winner on April 3rd.
Blessings,
Mary Alford

I love how a thread runs through a series. Characters may come and go, locations change, time advances, but there is something unifying that makes you feel you are on a journey with people and places familiar. Thanks for the giveaway.
ReplyDeleteYes, exactly.
DeleteThese books look interesting and intriguing. Would love to read and review the paperback version of all these books.
ReplyDeleteLove getting to know the characters and going on their journey with them. My favorite part is usually seeing how that journey will end for the characters and analyzing the book's plot to see if the situation(s) could possibly happen in real life.
I hope I win this series. Look forward to reading in paperback.

I so agree, Crystal. Love the journey.
DeleteI would have to say my favorite part of a series is how each book connects with the other books via people, pets and places.
ReplyDeleteExactly. I love seeing the characters appear in other books.
DeleteI love a series because you get to know characters in the first book, and then you meet them again in the second and so on. I enjoy it when the series uses the same people over and over again as they ‘grow older’. However, it is always good to have new characters to get to know and have the old ones look in, so the reader knows they are ok.

It's like a reunion with people you enjoy hanging out with.
DeleteI love getting to know the characters in the first book, then getting to read about them in consecutive books...even if they have become secondary characters at that point.
