AN INTERVIEW WITH TOSCA LEE

I'm so excited that Tosca has stopped by the Suspense Sisters. As many of you know (and I'm sure she knows), she is one of my very favorite authors. The first Tosca book I read was DEMON. It is at the top of my list of great novels. Breathtaking.

Tosca has been busy writing even more great books, including THE LINE BETWEEN, which I loved, but also her new one, A SINGLE LIGHT. She shared with me that both books are in development for television!

Tosca is giving away two of her books. You can pick from THE LINE BETWEEN or A SINGLE LIGHT. Leave a comment, along with your contact information for your chance to win! U.S. only, please.

Nancy

Tosca Lee is the award-winning, New York Times bestselling author of eleven novels including THE LINE BETWEEN, THE PROGENY, FIRSTBORN, THE LEGEND OF SHEBA, ISCARIOT, and the Books of Mortals series with New York Times bestseller Ted Dekker. Her work has been translated into seventeen languages and been optioned for TV and film. A notorious night-owl, she loves movies, playing football with her kids, and sending cheesy texts to her husband.

You can find Tosca at ToscaLee.com, on social media, or hanging around the snack table. To learn more, please visit toscalee.com.

INTERVIEW WITH TOSCA LEE

If you had to describe yourself in one sentence, what would you say?

Eats too much bacon.

Oops, I mean: loves God, her family, and her readers. ;D

What were your favorite books as a child?  Did your interests translate into your future writing career?

Green Eggs and Ham. I also colored it in because the fact that the pictures weren’t in color bothered me. And then Lord Valentine’s Castle, Maia, The Mists of Avalon, and Clan of the Cave Bear. They definitely informed my writing interests early on. When I sent in my first novel to Writer’s House at the age of 20, I received a letter that more or less read: “Even after reading the 23 page synopsis…” (btw, never write a 23-page synopsis!) “…we’re still not sure what this book is about. The characters are two-dimensional, the plot lacks tension… but it is strangely reminiscent of Clan of the Cave Bear.” All I took away from the experience was that my book was like Clan of the Cave Bear and I was totally doing this again.

What was your inspiration for A SINGLE LIGHT?

A Single Light is the sequel to THE LINE BETWEEN, which was inspired by real headlines: in 2016 a reindeer carcass thawed in the Siberian permafrost. Unfortunately, it was infected with anthrax and made an entire village sick and a young boy died. I encountered a bunch of headlines after that about how scientists are cautious at best and fearful at worst about what might emerge as the permafrost continues to melt.

What's next for Tosca Lee?

I’m up for contract, so I’m not sure yet, but have a bunch of ideas that we’re shopping around and that I can’t wait to get out to readers!!

A SINGLE LIGHT

In this gripping sequel to The Line Between, which New York Times best-selling author Alex Kava calls "everything you want in a thriller", cult escapee Wynter Roth and ex-soldier Chase Miller emerge from their bunker to find a country ravaged by disease, and Wynter is the only one who can save it.

Six months after vanishing into an underground silo with 60 others, Wynter and Chase emerge to find the area abandoned. There is no sign of Noah and the rest of the group that was supposed to greet them when they emerged - the same people Wynter was counting on to help her locate the IV antibiotics her gravely ill friend, Julie, needs in order to live.
As the clock ticks down on Julie's life, Wynter and Chase embark on a desperate search for medicine and answers. But what they find is not a nation on the cusp of recovery thanks to the promising new vaccine Wynter herself had a hand in creating, but one decimated by disease. What happened while they were underground?

With food and water in limited supply and their own survival in question, Chase and Wynter must venture further and further from the silo. Aided by an enigmatic mute named Otto, they come face-to-face with a society radically changed by global pandemic, where communities scrabble to survive under rogue leaders and cities are war zones. As hope fades by the hour and Wynter learns the terrible truth of the last six months, she is called upon once again to help save the nation she no longer recognizes - a place so dark she's no longer sure it can even survive.

Fast-paced and taut, A Single Light is a breathless thriller of nonstop suspense about the risks of living in a world outside the safe confines of our closely held beliefs and the relationships and lives that inspire us.

  3. I am ready to dive into her books. I'm always concerned with a author that's new to me. I don't like sex scenes and appropriate language. Nancy, if you're recommending her, I will read her work. Thank you. iemay@aol.com
