Happy Friday! Let's start my first blog of the new year off with a review and a giveaway! But first, have you thought about how many books you plan to read this year? I've signed up at the Goodreads Challenge for 52 books. Same amount as last year. And now onto my review.
Over the Christmas holidays, I read MIND GAMES by our very own Nancy Mehl. I am so excited about this new series. Before I tell you what I think about it, here's the back cover copy:
Kaely Quinn's talents as an FBI behavior analyst are impossible to ignore, no matter how unorthodox her methods. But when a reporter outs her as the daughter of an infamous serial killer, she's demoted to field agent and transferred to St. Louis.
When the same reporter who ruined her career claims to have received an anonymous poem predicting a string of murders, ending with Kaely's, the reporter's ulterior motives bring his claim into question. But when a body is found that fits the poem's predictions, the threat is undeniable, and the FBI sends Special Agent Noah Hunter to St. Louis.
Initially resentful of the assignment, Noah is surprised at how quickly his respect for Kaely grows, despite her oddities. But with a brazen serial killer who breaks all the normal patterns on the loose, Noah and Kaely are tested to their limits to catch the murderer before anyone else--including Kaely herself--is killed.
Now for my thoughts:
Nancy had me on the edge of my chair from the get-go. I loved the way she opened the book with Kaley Quinn interviewing a fantasy but very real serial killer. There are so many twists and turns to the story that will keep you glued to the page.
Kaley is likable and so competent that I want to be Kaley Quinn! And Special Agent Noah Hunter. The name alone is enough to make a girl’s heart speed up. And it does make Kaley’s heart beat faster, but she’s so determined not to fall in love…you know she will…eventually. But will it be with Hunter? Guess I’ll have to wait for the next book to find out. Or maybe the next one. Hurry up, Nancy, and get that next book out!
If you'd like to be entered in a drawing for a copy of MIND GAMES, leave a comment and tell me how many books you think you'll read this year! Winner announced next Friday in the comments.

Good number, Theresa!
DeleteProbably around 40. I really like Nancy Mehl's books & am looking forward to reading Mind Games.
ReplyDeleteYou'll enjoy it, Mary.
DeleteThe last 2 years I've read between 30 and 35 books, so I will say that. I would love to read more but I am not a 'speed' reader like my daughter-in-law, lol. Then there are times I fall asleep when I try to read I fall asleep, not because I am not enjoying the book, but because I'm tired, it goes in spurts for me and when I do that it makes me mad at myself!!
ReplyDeletewfnren at aol dot com
Wendy, I read really fast, and the only time I fall asleep reading is when I read nonfiction. lol
DeleteI've signed up on Goodreads to read 200 books. I did 185 last year, so I think I'll be able to reach my goal again! :)
ReplyDeleteeclitton at gmail dot com
Two hundred, Elizabeth! You go, Girl!
DeleteI don’t do reading challenges so I’m just going to guess that I’ll read about 30 books this year.
ReplyDeleteThirty is a nice round number, Karen.
DeleteMy goal for this year is 36!
ReplyDeleteGood, Josie!
DeleteIt's difficult for me to read too many books throughout the year. I have managed to read through the Bible each year for the past 18 years. As for novels? I'm hoping to read enough to keep my imagination alive.
ReplyDeletedebsbunch777(at)gmail(dot)com
Debbie, this will be my 15th year to read through the Bible. I read it chronologically.
DeleteI don’t do the reading challenges but I think I’ll probably read about 75 books this year.
ReplyDeleteSeventy-five is a lot, Nicole! Congrats!
DeleteI just finished this book. I loved it! I didn't meet my reading challenge goal last year, but I've signed up for 100 this year.
ReplyDeletelhanberry1 at gmail dot com
Hope you make your challenge this year, Linda.
DeleteLast year I read and reviewed 98 books! My goal this year is 90 but I’ll keep going if I pass that. I always review every book I read.
ReplyDeleteOh, my goodness, Gail, you are a writer's best friend! Thank you.
DeleteFirst I just have to share that I just love Nancy's books. She pulled me in years ago with her gift for the cozy mystery and she never disappoints. :)
ReplyDeleteI am so impressed with everyone's reading goals. I feel a bit weak. I am setting out for 24 because I am doing some studies this year and I know that will definitely make me slow the pace.
kellyblackwellwrites(at)gmail(dot)com
I like all of Nancy's books, Kelly. Yes, studies do slow down reading for pleasure!
DeleteI think I will read at least 60 books this year
ReplyDeleteThat eight more than I've committed to, Barb. Happy reading!
DeleteI have heard great things about this book! Hmm... I don’t know but maybe 100? Hopefully. katie07edgar(at)gmail(dot)com
ReplyDeleteOne hundred is a great number, Katie. Mind Games is so good!
DeleteI actually lowered my count this year to 45 from the 50 last year. I think I will probavly hit 50 but want to read to enjoy and not speed read.
