Setting up a Series--Wilderness, Inc.

By Elizabeth Goddard

This month Deception, the last book in my Mountain Cove series, released, and I’m going to miss the town I created in beautiful southeast Alaska—the town and the characters—the Warren siblings and their spouses, Will Pierson, my bush pilot, and Sheriff Colin Winters and Jewel Caraway. Fortunately since we are in the digital age, these books will be available for a very long time! I hope you get a chance to read the entire series.

Though I’ll miss Mountain Cove, Alaska, I had to come up with a new place to write a whole new series. Settings always inspire me. I absolutely love God’s creation, especially if it’s beautiful and takes my breath away.

Well, southwest Oregon is such a place. I know because I lived on the Rogue River. Well, not ON the river, but it I could look out my front window and see the river. Just a few more miles and the river enters the Wild and Scenic portion. People come from all over the world to experience the class II, III, IV and V white water rapids. The only way to get to this part of the river is by trail or boat.

The  Wild Rogue Wilderness, which is one of the government-designated wilderness areas, surrounds
the Wild and Scenic portion of the Rogue River as it carves through the Siskiyou Mountains to the Pacific Ocean.

And THAT's where I set my new series called Wilderness, Inc.--I  created a fictional town called Gideon and set it right in the middle of all the fun.

So much beautiful scenery in this part of the world, it boggles the mind. I can't help it. I'm a sucker for majestic views.

What does all this WILD stuff mean, you ask? It simply means what you think it means—where humans have little to no impact on the wildlife and the land is left to be natural and well. . .wild.

And my characters? Let me introduce you to the Wilde siblings, Cooper and Grayson (Gray) and Alice Wilde. Their business? Wilderness excursions, training and survival.

Well, what do you think so far? Sound fun? Even though Targeted for Murder, the first book, releases in October, I’m already writing the fourth book in this series, which could also be the last. I’m not sure yet and will have to talk to my editor about this. But if the book I'm currently working on is the last book in the Wilderness, Inc. series, you know what that means, don’t you?

It means I have to come up with a whole new series. Well, I don’t have to, but I enjoy writing books that have characters connected in a series. So, where should I set my next series? Hmmm. I thinking, I’m thinking. . .

I have several possibilities percolating. I guess you’ll have to wait and see. Oh and for some bonus material, hop over to my Pinterest and view my Targeted for Murder board.

Blessings!

  3. Since I don't have a chance to travel, it is always fun to read books set in different locations. Thanks for this great post!
