Dear Reader

Thanks for joining me again during my Backfire promo for release week!

Do you ever read the "Dear Reader" letters at the end of a Love Inspired story? I love writing them because this is my chance to share my heart about the story. What I was thinking or going through as I wrote. I learned long ago that whatever I'm going through in life, the spiritual aspect will end up in a story. I shared some of that on a recent post about Untraceable, the second book in Mountain Cove. I bring that up because if you finish a book and think you're done think again. Take time to read the letters from the author. I always love to get a peek into an author's writing life and love reading author's notes at the end of a novel.

Here's an excerpt from my letter to you, the reader, at the end of Backfire. Don't worry. There are no spoilers.
Disney has updated their damsel-in-distress stories, changing the princess in need of her prince to save her into a story in keeping with our modern thinking. I loved the movie, but to be honest, I see nothing wrong with a princess wanting her prince to save her. To rescue her. And when the princess is used to only depending on herself, sometimes the greatest act of bravery can be trusting someone else—letting yourself love someone else.
I find that very romantic, and in fact, the Bible as a whole is a romance story. Jesus even rides a white horse! He is our Prince come to save us. He laid down His life for us.
This is why I love writing Christian fiction. I have the freedom to share the gospel through my stories even though most of the time, that message is subtle. But I write it just as the Lord leads me to write. Readers have never complained that I was preaching to them.

If you haven't started the Mountain Cove series, there's no better time than the present. I just signed a new contract and I'm writing two more books in this series to make a total of six books! I love the southeast Alaska setting with it's temperate rainforest, caves, waterfalls and islands and snow-covered mountain ranges.

Mountain Cove: Buried (book 1), Untraceable (book 2), Backfire (book 3) and Submerged (book 4 coming soon).

  2. I enjoy the letters from the author. It always gives me an idea of what the author thought while pulling the story together. A woman doesn't need a man to save her, but it's certainly nice to have someone to lean on or trust at times. I love books with Christian themes. They show how God is always there on the mountains and in the valleys, so it's up to us to lean on him and let him guide us.
    Thank you for sharing Elizabeth.
    Blessings

    1. Thanks Katrina! It's hard to know, too, wha kind of story will appeal to readers. Sometimes when I've written a strong heroine, someone has sad it was disappointing the hero didn't step up. But if I write a strong hero who saves the heroine, it's disappoint that the heroine wasn't stronger! LOL So I've decided to just write the story God gives me. We can't please everyone, right?

    2. Tried to go back in and edit but it wouldn't let me. Sorry for the typos. :)

  3. I enjoy reading what the author is thinking or experiencing, which inspires the story, especially if insight is gained. When I was younger I tended to read stories where the guy rescues the girl, but am glad there are more options where the heroine discovers, with God's help, resources within herself to aid herself and others. I especially am delighted where she outwits the "bad guy" or shows herself to be stronger than she
imagined. Thank you for the generous book offer!
