I am so excited to introduce Jodie Bailey to you. She is the USA Today Best-selling author of novels about freedom and heroes who fight for it. She packs her novels with the knowledge she’s gained as an Army wife. Jodie grew up in Eastern North Carolina, where she developed a love for golden sand beaches. In college, she met a soldier who rides a Harley and skydives for fun. This led to lots of moving, and those moves worked their way into her stories. She lives in the Tarheel State with her family and stubborn pup.
Since you write romantic suspense, what have you researched that makes you think the FBI might be interested in you?
Oh. My. Goodness. I’m probably on their radar for researching poisons, bombs, and weapons. I’ve searched how to kill someone with one punch, how long it takes to choke someone out, and how carbon monoxide affects people. When I was teaching, I was working after school while my daughter was in a piano lesson. I forget what I was researching, but our IT director walked into my classroom and asked me to stop, because the alarms she’d set to detect suspicious searches on our network were going crazy. She said, “I didn’t even have to look to see who it was. I knew it was you.”
What would you like readers to know about your story/characters?
Undercover Colorado Conspiracy is about Phillip and Thalia who were minor characters in Captured at Christmas and Deadly Vengeance. I loved their chemistry, so I wanted to see what would happen if I gave them a starring role. They had deep wounds, so it was a delicate waltz to bring them together. The main theme of their story deals with adoption and infertility, and I wanted to handle that gently and with a lot of prayer. I believe the finished novel communicates hope and shows the beauty of all sorts of families.
What is the most valuable piece of advice you’d like to give to unpublished authors?
In publishing, few things move quickly. Editors and agents are super busy. They read multiple books and proposals a day. They’re incredible. Patience is a requirement. When you turn in a proposal or manuscript, it could be months before you hear back. It can take years to move from contract to publication. I’ve learned to meet deadlines then start working on the next thing. Also, don’t be in a rush to publish. The right editor or agent will fall in love with your book when it’s the right time. If you choose to self-publish, take it slow. Revise and edit. Have someone else edit. In both traditional and self-publishing. make it the best you can before you hit send.

ReplyDeleteOooh, this looks so good... and hits close to home! My husband and I dealt with infertility, did IVF, got pregnant and quickly miscarried, then just 18 days before our 20th anniversary, God and our daughter's birthmom gave us our most precious gift of our daughter! ♡ I also have a friend who is trying to adopt, and she and her husband got scammed, big time. So devastating.
