At the end of July my K-9 book Threat Detection releases. This is book 5 in an 8 books series from Love Inspired Suspense called the Pacific Northwest K-9 unit series. The first book in the series Shielding the Baby by Laura Scott came out at the end of March. Though each book has a complete romantic suspense story, I encourage you to check out the whole series. There are some subplots that carry over from book to book and each book introduces a new K-9.
I love writing about the K-9s. I love watching the videos of the dogs working and being trained. There is something really special about the relationship between a K-9 and his or her partner. Each dog has some specialty training. Some dogs are taught to track or apprehend suspects. Others can detect a dead body even if it buried underground. Threat Detection has a beagle named Freddy who is trained to sniff out electronics, everything from cell phones to thumb drives.
Yes, electronics actually have a scent a dog can find. There is a chemical on circuit boards called triphenylphosphine oxide, TPPO for short. There is another chemical on removable media like CDs, DVDs, Blu-Rays and floppy disks. I will spare you the name of that. It is shortened to HPK.
Honestly, I don't think there is anything I K-9 can't be taught to do. They are such a great help for law enforcement and the military and such faithful partners to the officers they work with.
I would love to hear about what other K-9 books you have read and enjoyed or if you have had any experience with K-9s. Leave your comment and email address. I will be giving away four copies of Threat Detection so there is a good chance to win.
I’m fascinated by K-9s - and love dogs in general - so combining that with suspense or mystery reading is my sweet spot. Besides the various Love Inspired K-9 series, Ronnie Kendig has a Christian military K-9 trilogy. Other K-9 and SAR dogs feature in writings of Donna Ball, Sara Driscoll, Margaret Mizushima, Alex Kava, Kylie Logan, Paula Meunier, and let’s not forget K-9 flunk-out Chet who narrates in Spencer Quinn’s novels. I’ll stop now😊. Becca12901 (at) yahoo.com

ReplyDeleteSuper excited for the release of "Threat Detection"! Love the K-9 stories. It really is amazing what they can teach (or I should say what these dogs seem to have a natural talent for) these dogs.
ReplyDeleteAfter the death of our daughter ( our only child), I had to find something to occupy my time and mind. I went to work under the police department in animal control. I was the one woman do it all show. I also had direct connection to the K-9's and saw what they could do in detecting drugs and contraband. Once when a pit bull, who was very dangerous having been taught to defend a drug house at all cost, got off his chain early one morning just as the kiddos were getting ready to head to the bus station. After I got my call and was headed over (with my rope and pole I might add), I radioed the officer on duty which happened to be the K-9. It was the K-9, not the officer that was able to distract the pit bull enabling me to capture his without him or me getting hurt and before some innocent child walked by being perceived as a threat and attacked.
