What do you do when you have a blog post due and you are so far behind on your edits you think you'll never see the light of day?
Why, you post about your new book that releases in May! :-) And try to make up for it next month.I really thought I'd have my edits in by now, but what had happened was...
*sigh* My cardiologist talked me into taking a statin because my cholesterol hovered around 200 and he said my blood was 'sticky'. Of course, no one wants sticky blood--might cause a stroke or heart attack. So...I had the prescription filled and purposely did not read the side effects--that's a sure way for me to have side effects.
Two weeks into the prescription, I noticed I was really tired and my brain was foggy, but I just thought I was really tired and my brain was foggy. And it would get better.
It didn't. And then I got vertigo. Try sitting at the computer with the room spinning like a top. I was getting further and further behind on my extensive rewrites.
Then Sunday afternoon, I finally decided to check out the side effects of the statin I was on...you guessed it: extreme tiredness, brain fog, and vertigo.
So I have five minutes to finish this blog and get back to work. ;-)
The first book in my new series releases May 16. You can preorder at Baker Book House and get 40% off and free shipping!
Here's the cover and back copy:
Alexis Stone has no sooner been sworn in as the chief deputy for Russell County, Tennessee, when a serial killer dubbed the Queen’s Gambit Killer strikes again–this time in her hometown. Pearl Springs is just supposed to be a temporary stop along the way to Alex’s real dream: becoming the first female police chief of Chattanooga. But the killer’s calling card–a white pawn and a note with a chess move printed on it–cannot be ignored.
Pearl Springs chief of police Nathan Landry can’t believe that his high school sweetheart Alexis (he refuses to call her Alex) is back in town, and he can’t help wanting to protect the woman he never stopped loving. But as the danger mounts and the killer closes in, can Nathan come through on the promises he makes to himself to bring a killer to justice before it’s too late?
Leave a comment and I'll enter you in a drawing for Counter Attack when it releases in May! Print for US Addresses, digital for all others! Do you play chess, want to learn, or watched The Queen's Gambit?
Winner of last month's drawing for Jessica R Patch's book, Her Darkest Secret is Barbara Diggs!
Wow - I think you may have identified why I had vertigo in December! I never thought to look at side-effects of the supplement with red yeast rice I am taking because I wouldn’t go on a statin. It did help lower my cholesterol by 59 points but food for thought. Happy writing; it sounds like another good read.
ReplyDeleteThanks, Becca!
ReplyDeleteFirst of all, let me get over my shock, surprise and delight at winning Her Darkest Secret, by Jessica Patch! Yay!!! I have not read it yet, so excited! THANK YOU!!
ReplyDeleteSo hope you are feeling better and making good progress on those edits now that you are off the statins! Can’t wait to read Counter Attack! Barbara Diggs Englishathome01@gmail.com
Hi Barbara! Congrats! If you don't mind, it'll be Wednesday before I mail it. ;-)
DeleteOh sweet friend, no problem! As you can see, I just now saw this! Lol Your poor brain is on overload right now. Barbara Diggs
DeleteThis sounds like a really good book!

Thanks, BN!
DeleteUghh! Medications. Can't live with them...or without them! Hope you're feeling better soon, sister. This book sounds wonderful!
ReplyDeleteA statin is one I will live without, Mary! At least until my cholesterol is higher. lol
Deletelove to enter to win a print copy. Love your books. Saw The Queen's Gambit and enjoyed it. I don't play chess, though.
ReplyDeleteI read the book, Vera. Haven't watched the program...maybe when I get this book in...
DeleteI'm so glad you figured out what was causing the vertigo & brain fog! I'm taking antibiotics now for a UTI & am having brain fog & shortness of breath. It's almost like there's nothing that doesn't have side effects. Would love to read Counter Attack! It's been on my wishlist ever since I 1st heard about it!

I did play chess with my brother as a teen. I don't remember how anymore. lol
DeleteDiana, a UTI will give you brain fog, too! And even aspirin has side effects...It's been years since I played chess, too. But I had a chess master figure out the moves I put in the book. ;-)
DeleteI am not much for playing it but I do enjoy watching others play chess. Sounds like something I would do with regard to taking medicine without looking at the side effects.
ReplyDeleteCherie, I think I like the idea of playing chess more than I like to play the game. lol
DeleteI’ve been looking forward to this book since you first mentioned it king ago. And hoping it’s the start of a series! I used to attend a chess tournament every year with friends. I was ranked somewhere in the middle but finally won the tournament when I talked them into playing me on my chessboard. It was very unique and I mostly won because the other players were too distracted by looking at the pieces on my board to pay attention to the game. 😄
ReplyDeleteGreat way to win! It is the start of a series, but the only one involving chess. :-)
DeleteI can't wait!
