Spring is here. Finally! How is spring coming along where you live?
It's still chilly, but the grass is turning a tender green and the trees are starting to leaf out here in the Upper Midwest.
There's a constant chorus of birdsong in every variety from dawn to dusk. Then at night, we hear a frog symphony from a wet area just beyond our pasture fence. We may live in the country, but it's definitely not quiet!
Easter is coming the weekend after next. Hallelujah!
We try to never travel then, because we love to be in our own church on Easter Sunday to hear the uplifting Easter message, to enjoy the lovely scent of lilies, and to be swept away by the triumphant music. The trumpets give me a chill!
What are some of your favorite Easter memories? I would love to hear about them!

Easter dinner with family

When I was about 4 or 5, a blizzard came through when it was Easter. My mother, my sister and I all in our spring dresses. My dad had shovel out the front sidewalk which went straight to the street and the snow was higher than my head. It was like walking in a tunnel to the car. All the eggs were hid inside the house which seemed really weird as a small child.

ReplyDeleteSince COVID we don’t get together as a family anymore. It’s just my daughter and I and we don’t do anything special.

ReplyDeleteA fond memory of Easter to my is the little purple weeds, which I now know as henbit, that our daughter called Easter Flowers. It was a rule that you couldn't mow down the weeds until after Eastern because the pretty purple flowers were great for hiding Easter eggs in. :) It's a extra special memory for us because our daughter died tragically when she was 17. This time of year when we see the purple flower weeds I always smile.

Special Easter memories always included special services at our church dressed in new dresses, socks, shoes, and maybe a new little purse. Then I made the same memories with my own children. Easter baskets were hidden and had to be found the morning of. An Easter cantata was presented at church. I remember the song HE AROSE as being my favorite!!

When my grandchildren were very young, they couldn't read yet I would have an Easter Scavenger Hunt, I would leave a not by their Basket or Bucket and give them hints of where to find their next thing to go in their basket and wherever they found their next item that went in their basket or bucket I would leave another hint and did that until their baskets were full of goodies, they loved it so much and they would always ask if we could do it again the next year. Our oldest grandchild will be 19 this year and is in college, our next one is 16 and the youngest is 13. (not entering this ebook giveaway as I am not tech savvy , but Thank you. ReplyDeleteEaster is a day to celebrate our risen Savior, first at church and then with family if they are in town and available. We usually hide eggs for the little kids after dinner.
ReplyDeleteMy favorite birds are starlings, not much to look at but very loyal to the flock, even feeding young that are not theirs.
ReplyDeleteWhen I was growing up, we always had a sunrise service and then a Sunday brunch at church. My mom would hide jelly beans around the house. I don't remember doing a lot of the typical Easter baskets or egg hunts or coloring eggs.

Easter egg hunts were my fondest Easter memory!

ReplyDeleteMy hometown does a reenactment every year, starting with the Last Supper and Communion on Thursday evening, the trial and crucifixion on Friday evening, and then the Resurrection early Sunday morning. It is quite the experience, and still moving even though I have experienced it multiple times.
ReplyDeleteHappy Easter! Christ is risen! Dangerous Past seems like a great book!
