Happy Friday!
I'm so excited to share my review of Death in Earthen Vessels by Shaen Layle! I love a good novella, and couldn't wait to read this one as soon as I heard it was releasing.
Let me tell you, it didn't disappoint.
I'll share the back cover copy before digging into my review.
Retired police officer, John Hollingsworth, came to Mirror Basin to recover from a stroke, not to dig up buried secrets. But when a chance discovery pulls him into a decades-old cold case, recovery takes a backseat. Because in Mirror Basin, blood isn’t just thicker than water—it might be the only thing keeping him alive.
For starters, I loved seeing a different type of main character than the one I usually read. While I enjoy reading strong female characters, something resonated with me as I read sJohn's story. As the suspense unfolded, the aftermath of John's stroke became a big part of what kept me hooked until the end.
Another thing I noticed as I read this novella is the gamut of emotions I experienced. Not often does even a full length novel pull me in so deep that I physically feel the emotions of the characters. While reading Death in Earthen Vessels, I felt the fear, sadness, frustration, and triumph right along with John, and that made the story very enjoyable for me.
There is so much suspense within the pages of Death in Earthen Vessels, and the best part was, I didn't see the ending coming. Believe me, you won't want to miss this fantastic story!
