CAN YOU HELP ME WITH A TITLE AND COVER CHANGE? Win a drawing for a free book!

It seems like just a few weeks ago that we were waiting for the trees to leaf out and the grass to turn green. And yet here we are--into lush green lawns, blooming flowers, and warm summer days.

What are your plans for the summer?  Will you have a chance to see some family and friends you haven't seen for a while, or do a bit of traveling?

I think we will stay home, for the most part.  My husband enjoys tending the lawn, flower gardens, and taking care of our horses. I'll mostly be in my office!

My latest book,  SILENT DECEPTION, is a Christian Romantic Suspense, and is out now. It's free on Kindle Unlimited, or just $3.99 to purchase.  Here is a link  if you'd like to learn more!

I have a question for you, and I would really appreciate your opinions.

The books I've published since 2007 are all Christian Romantic  Suspense. However, the titles for my Northern Pines Suspense trilogy don't even come close to conveying that genre.  I really missed the ball on these!  Also, book cover styles have evolved over the years, and many authors do updates on both titles and covers.

But how do you feel about that? Is it a mistake to make such changes?  I don't want to confuse anyone into re-buying my books, so I will place a message at the top of each book sales page explaining the change. Is that enough?

And what do you think about this cover revision?  Do you think it will "work" for this genre? I have used a woman on my recent book covers. Do you prefer covers with a woman, a man, or a couple?

Here is the new cover (just a draft) followed by the original cover.

Leave a comment, and you will be in a drawing for a free Kindle copy of LETHAL PURSUIT!

All my best to you,
Roxanne

  1. A man or woman on a book cover for me can be a turn off. I don't care for romance books and I immediately think it is with the guy on the front. A silloette is more mysterious for sure. Or a picture of a police or search and rescue dog.

  2. I actually like just one person on the cover, man or woman.

  5. I like the two with the male or female on the covers. Not sure what the child and dog One more kiss would be about, reminds me of the death of a child. I do get confused when authors change their covers to update their books, I read a lot and when purchasing new books, this just makes it that more difficult as to whether I truly did read them or not.

  6. I understand the desire to update the cover and title to better reflect what the book is about. I do think there should be a small message at the top of the front cover or at least in the blurb on the back saying something like “Previously published as One More Kiss. I don’t like to accidentally buy the same book twice. There are some authors I buy their books automatically when I see their name on the cover without necessarily reading the blurb.

  7. I love the new cover rather than the old one. It is more catchy and appealing. I do think somewhere it should mention previously published as..., so people are aware it is not "a new book" and they can check to see if they have read it.

  8. I like a man, woman or couple on the cover of a book. The updated cover speaks to me more than the original does. Definitely put a statement that this is a book that was published previously.

  9. The cover looks good. On this one, I think I’d like a couple, but either way is okay.
Thanks for bringing up the point about re-buying books with different covers etc., I’ve rebought several books from different authors. I better understand it now. At the time, I was quite miffed and kind of felt deceived, because it didn’t come across as honest. Please put it on the book itself. It gives integrity, for a reader who isn’t familiar with this practice. I get it, though. Publishing…. Barbara Diggs englishathome01@gmail.com

  10. I like the idea of updating the images on the cover of the older book, just make sure to but a small note at the top that states that it is a rerelease of an older book with a new cover on it.

  11. At the risk of sounding redundant, I really like the updated cover and think you should definitely note that it was previously released under another title. While I ready mostly romantic suspense, I like books that are heavy on the suspense and lighter on the romance. So I like a book cover that doesn't make me think it's all mush, which featuring a couple tends to do. But that's just my opinion, and I will still read your books, no matter what the cover looks like! :)

  12. My thoughts are controversial on cover changes - sometimes I prefer the old covers; however, in this case - I like it!
The title change is another story. But it makes sense too - to correctly display the genre of the story.

Their should be a mention of prior title somewhere on the front cover.

  13. I think the new cover is more appealing & fitting for the book, but as others have said, definitely add a warning that it was previously published as One More Kiss. I have bought the same book twice because authors didn't add a warning 😖
