Tuesday, March 23rd, the eighth book in the Courage Under Fire
series release.
Each book in
the series has taken me on a journey that I never expected to go, and I’m
looking forward to what comes next in the future with new characters and interesting
new directions.
Here’s an
excerpt from the beginning of Firestorm. . .
Sarah Hancock slammed the brake pedal of her pickup truck with both feet. The vehicle skidded sideways on the icy road before coming to a shuddering stop.
The impact of the sudden
action threw Sarah forward. The seatbelt caught hard knocking the breath from
her but stopping her momentum seconds before she slammed into the steering
wheel.
Her eyes had
to be deceiving her. Daylight had broken about an hour earlier. She’d driven
straight through the night to reach Idaho. Darkness had hidden the massive
cloud in front. Until now.
Not real.
Just your imagination. She’d been living off of little sleep and way too much
coffee.
And yet. . .
The mushroom
cloud was living proof that something terrible had happened.
Sarah knew
very little about nuclear weapons except what she’d learned in school. If she
could trust her eyes and that was nuclear fallout, then she needed to put as
much distance between it and herself, and she needed to do it quickly.
She realized she still had both feet on the
brake pedal, her legs locked in place. Sarah slowly lifted her feet and jerked
the steering wheel hard to the left. The tires slipped on the road but finally
caught, and she maneuvered the truck around to the way she’d come. Once the
vehicle was straight, she floored it and flew down the road as fast as the
conditions would allow.
Glancing in
the rearview mirror, Sarah prayed she could outrun the fallout. Her mind
churned out all sorts of lethal scenarios. Someone had nuked the hideout of the
people she’d come to for help to save her brother.
Firestorm comes out in both e-book and print on March 23rd. You can preorder the e-book now on Amazon.
In the book,
Sarah is a former schoolteacher that is thrown into an impossible situation
where she must fight incredible odds to save her brother.
For a chance
to win an e-book copy of Firestorm, have you ever faced something that felt
impossible at the time. If so, how did you get through it? Don't forget to leave your email address in your comment for a chance to win.
I’ll
announce the winner next Tuesday, March 23rd!
Blessings
always,
Mary Alford

DeleteThe first time I had to preach a sermon. Public speaking is terrifying! Prayer got me through and, with any impossible task, taking it one step at a time. obreece@hotmail.com
ReplyDeleteOh, my goodness, Olive, I can't even imagine. I'm terrified of public speaking.
DeleteLots of prayer got me through some tough times. Trusted friends who listened, brought meals, cards in the mail; they helped in many ways ... all were a blessing.

Sounds like you have some wonderful friends, Suzan.
DeleteLove the trailer! Can't wait to read the book. As for tough times, I'm in one now with my daughter in the hospital with Covid related problems. But prayer will get us through this!
ReplyDeleteOh, Pat, I'm so sorry. Prayers gets us through some impossible situations. I'm praying for your daughter.
DeletePraying for you & your daughter! GOD knows! HE is our Healer!
Deleteyes, my now ex husband walked out on me & 4 children; our home was foreclosed on, and the children & I moved to public housing, were on welfare & food stamps...BUT GOD, helped me to graduate from college a few months later, and find a good job, and, buy a home 2 years later! ReplyDeleteThat's an amazing story of overcoming hardships. Thank you for sharing it. God is so good.
DeleteYes, I have! 3 years ago my healthy, robust husband unexpectedly went into congestive heart failure due to a tear in the mitral valve of his heart which he was not aware of. He had to have emergency open heart surgery. We didn't know if he would survive. We had been through so many trials before this happened, and this just seemed like the last straw. Yet, as I waited in the hospital during his surgery, God completely covered me with His peace! I knew no matter what happened, Jesus was with us and would see us through. I could feel God's people supporting and holding us up in prayer! It was amazing! God graciously spared my husband's life! He is a walking miracle! I am so grateful for my Savior, Jesus!!! I don't know how people make it in this world without Him!

DeleteWhat an amazing story, Alison. And I agree. I don't know how people survive without Him.
DeleteJust dealing with my husband's asthma at times, and trying to keep the ministry going, with various kinds of opposition, but the Lord continues to sustain us. Thanks for the opportunity to enter a giveaway! Would love to win a print copy (no e-book). Looks like a riveting story, and look forward to reading it:) Lual Krautter Email: krautter62520AToutlookDOTcom
ReplyDeleteGod takes care of us always. Thanks, Lual.
DeleteThanks for a chance to win Firestorm. Sounds really good. As we stood in our driveway watching our home burn to the ground my first thought was how will we recover from this. Then we purposefully decided to praise God for His ongoing goodness. We all escaped as well as pets. We knew He would see us through one day sometimes one moment at a time as we moved forward. He is so good.
ReplyDeleteOoos forgot my email 🥴. tdstevens821@gmail.com
ReplyDeleteHis is so good. Thank you for sharing your story.
DeleteOur daughter (and our only child) was killed in a car accident when she was a senior in high school. At the time, I didn't think I could go on, but go on we must. One day at a time with a lot of prayer and love of others holding me up. I dealt with it partly by getting a job working with animals and finding homes for unwanted dogs. After almost two years, I was ready to return to being a homemaker full time and didn't look at time as something to get through.
ReplyDeleteThen fast forward several years. Dad went to his heavenly home and Mom ended up living with us after a bad cancer surgery. Then Alzheimer set in and we found ourselves full time 24/7 caregivers. It was very hard and there were days I didn't know if I could keep it up, but we were able to keep Mom at home with us until her last breathe knowing she was loved and well cared for. How? An amazing husband that took early retirement to help with her care and leaning on each other and God holding us up.
I've found that no situation is too hard or impossible to get through with loving support, faith and knowing we are never doing it "alone".
