Don’t you wish salads made you this happy? Yeah … me too.
If you’re anything like me, you’ve tried your fair share of fad diets. I’m talking Adkins, Intermittent Fasting, Paleo, Keto, Weight Watchers, Whole30 … even one with pre-portioned shakes and ‘snacks.’ I use the word snacks loosely, because the company literally sent me a medicine bottle of chalky little Tums-looking discs that were supposed to taste like chocolate. Pretty sure the lab-dweller who designed those little beasties never came within a country mile of actual chocolate. That being said, fad diets are not a recent phenomenon.
The villain in The Purple Nightgown used her own brand of fad diet to bring clients to her health retreat with the promise of healing and vitality beyond their wildest dreams. Since the book is releasing on Monday, I won’t go into gory detail here, but suffice it to say, if I was following her regime, one of those disappointing chocolate Tums wouldn’t look so bad.
What fad diets have you tried? Did it work, or was it so difficult to stick with you abandoned ship as I have done more times than I’m comfortable admitting? The $10 Amazon gift card winner from last month’s post is (insert drum roll here) Bn100! I’ve sent the gift card to the email address you provided.

It's hard to find a diet that fits and I can stick with.
DeleteIn the 80s I tried slimfast. For some reason my brain (and stomach) didn't believe a drink was a good substitute for a meal. It didn't work and I didn't stick with it.

I tried SlimFast too. Not sustainable at all.
DeleteI am not much into fad diets although I do use the intermittent fasting thing, if that is a fad. I don't eat for at least 14 hours (6 pm to 8 am). This has helped me with evening snacking so I am taking in less calories. The thing that seems to work for me is counting calories--taking in less that I burn up.
ReplyDeleteI've had a little success with intermittent fasting. My problem is falling off the wagon when my schedule shifts.
DeleteMy husband tried Nutrisystem years ago, but he didn't even finish the dust month's shipment of meals because he didn't like the taste. I have done Weight Watchers for 10 years or more, and found it to be the easiest to do, for me.

I've heard the Nutrisystem meals aren't Wolfgang Puck quality.
DeleteWOW! This sounds interesting.
ReplyDeleteI have belonged the the group TOPS, Weight Watchers and tried the Atkins Diet. The Atkins Diet worked really well for me and it wasn't hard to follow, that is until I quit, like with any diet you quit the weight comes back on if you're not careful plus some. Two years ago I just started going to the 'Y' and walking as well as cutting out sweets and cutting down on the amount I ate and would have kept going it I hadn't started having issues with my legs and the the Covid came along so the 'Y' was out too.
Thank you for the chance to win a copy of this book.

Cutting out sweets is a hard one, but it really does help :)
DeleteI've learned a "diet" doesn't help me at all. When I see the scale inching up (it never inches down!) I just cut out desserts. And cut back on bread. Both are my downfall! I tend to gain five pounds with each book I write, then exercise and eat less and lose only to get it back when I have to sit behind the computer 8 hours a day. lol
ReplyDeleteSweets and bread are my kryptonite, too. :)
DeleteOh, and the book sounds so intriguing!!
ReplyDeleteThanks! Haven't tried any

You're very wise :)
DeleteYes, I have tried my share of diets as well and the only one I can seem to stick to is the Seafood diet ;) (See food and I eat it) LOL. This sounds so good. Thanks for a chance to win. paralegal dot 7 at hotmail.com
ReplyDeleteThat's my favorite diet, too :D
DeleteThe only 'diet' I've really tried is Adkins, for a short while before I got married. I'm not really into fads, but if there was a chocolate diet, I'd be in immediately!

If only there was a chocolate diet...
DeleteI have tried many diets and only one has worked well for me and that is the 3 day diet. Lost 40 pounds in less that 5 months
ReplyDeleteInteresting. I'll have to look that one up :)
DeleteI tried the 'Israeli Army Diet' once. Two days of apples, 2 days of cheese, I forget what the third thing was.

I haven't heard of that one. :)
