I want to introduce our brand new Suspense Sister, A.D. Lawrence. She is one of the most talented people I've ever met! She can crochet (you should see what she made me!), she can play the piano, and boy, can she write!
You'll love getting to know her. And watch for her upcoming book, THE PURPLE NIGHTGOWN!
Here's Amy:
Hey, Ya’ll!
I’m super excited for the opportunity to introduce myself and talk suspense with such a fun bunch.
I’m A.D. Lawrence, and I write Christian suspense. My debut novel is releasing on March 1st as part of Barbour’s True Colors series. It’s titled The PurpleNightgown if you feel the urge to check it out.
While writing has always been a dream of mine, true crime drew me like a siren song from the time I was eleven. My parents weren’t huge fans of us watching cartoons, so I grew up on things like Forensic Files, Dateline, and Body of Evidence. From the time I was a teenager, I wanted to get inside criminal minds and figure out how they operated. Come to think of it, that might have been one of the plethora of reasons I didn’t have many friends growing up. While I was reading about John Wayne Gacy and developing a healthy fear of clowns, other girls my age were dishing about makeup and boys (not sure if that’s what they really talked about since I spent a good deal of time reading in my room, but that’s what I assume based on my limited knowledge of normal people from shows like Lizzie McGuire.)
I gave up my dream of writing for about a decade, figuring it was just that … a dream. I mean, how many people get to spend their life doing what they love? So I holed up in my house, watching Investigation Discovery, and thinking I’d try applying to the FBI--because that is so much more realistic. One day a few years ago, a friend of mine told me about a book she was writing. Her excitement breathed new life into the desire I thought had died. Turns out it was just lying dormant until God was ready to use it. I tried a few genres and learned that I’m terrible at writing anything romantic. You might be thinking, “Oh, you can’t be that bad.”
Trust me. I’m the least romantic person on the face of the earth. Those initial emotion-charged scenes are painful to read and they’ll never see the light of day. But through trial and error, I realized that my love of crime might translate into something usable in the story world. When I started writing my first suspense novel, I got this overwhelming feeling that I’d found God’s calling for my life. Even though so many people thought my fascination with investigations, serial killers, and all things crime was disturbing, God didn’t give me that inclination for nothing.
Isn’t it a comfort to know that the quirky, misunderstood parts of us are useful to God? He made us as we are for a reason. To equip us for a task only someone with our talents and interests can accomplish. We just have to be willing.
What is something you love that makes you unique? Let me know in the comments for a chance to win a $10 Amazon gift card. I look forward to your responses and can’t wait to get to know each of you better.
Welcome, Amy! I love attending honor league baseball games with my family, which makes me unique. They are wholesome, family fun. Thank you for the opportunity to enter a contest. Have a wonderful day, a great week-end and stay safe!

DeleteHonor league baseball sounds like lots of fun!
DeleteI can't think of anything that I love that most folks don't love. I'm pretty average rather than unique. :)

God made you special. I'm sure of that :)
DeleteWe watch true crime all the time at night. Our running joke is we watch the whack ‘em channel. I love this book series and look forward to reading this. I actually love planting my garden and watching things grow and then seeing the beauty in the jars when I finish canning. Blessings
ReplyDeleteI've always wanted to try canning! And I think I may rename ID to the Wack 'Em Channel. It's lots more fun to say :)
DeleteI'd love to win a print copy! This author, A. D. Lawrence, sounds like a fantastic person, and very talented! Yes, I'd sure like to read her book, The Purple Nightgown! This whole True Colors series has been so good. Lual Krautter Email: krautter62520AToutlookDOTcom
ReplyDeleteWelcome, Amy. It's been a pleasure to get to know you. I'm happy to have you as a sister.
ReplyDeleteAwe, thank you! I'm so excited to be a part of the group :)
DeleteI love canning, quilting, reading. And I do them all at once. I put an audible on the blue tooth speaker and can or quilt. I love staying in touch with my grandmother's while also using today's tech.
ReplyDeleteYou've got a lot of great hobbies!
DeleteMy love for babies and toddlers! I love cross-stitch, scrapbook, make cards, and I love going family genealogy. O es! I love to read, too!
ReplyDeleteI preordered “The Purple Nightgown” back in October. 2020! Can’t wait to read it! I love this True Colors series! There’s a few I don’t have yet.
Welcome, Amy. I love all those true crime showd, too. Something I love that makes me unique? I love purchasing/having hand-made items by makers that I know personally since, in my mind, it makes the item more special. Can't wait to read your book. Thanks for the chance to win a prize. ReplyDeleteOops; "fat fingers on a smart phone screen" typo. Meant to say "shows".
DeleteWelcome to the family, Amy! A unique thing about me? I can tell me our surround sound stereo system is on the wrong setting and must correct the problem as soon as possible. Sometimes, it's just to loud. I have the sensitive ears of a singer and enjoy picking up parts of other lanqlguages in the right accent. racheltirzah(at)gmail(dot)com
ReplyDeleteWhat a cool talent!
DeleteGuess I've always been excited about things that aren't the norm for girls. Back in the 60's when I was in junior high, I was the only girl that took drafting - which I loved. I think if I'd been given the opportunity to further that line of learning, I would have loved to have become an architect. However, Dad retired and we moved from California where schooling was free back to Arkansas where they even charged a locker fee, you had to rent books and each class had some sort of fee or other be it laundry fee in P.E. to chemical fees in science. So taking a class like drafting in high school was impossible besides it wasn't even offered.
ReplyDeleteJump to married life years later working along side hubby on our extra jobs of testing for and designing septic systems (where I was able to use my drafting knowledge), I became the first woman licensed in the state to do this back in the early 90's.
Even now as a senior citizen, if someone tells me I can't do something or that girls don't do that, I usually buck up and say "YES I CAN!".
Super excited to find a new to me author (already liked on Facebook) who has a book coming out that sounds right up my alley (already added to my TBR list on Goodreads).
Love the era you choose and can't wait for the opportunity to read all about Stella and her stay at the spa - or better yet her attempts to escape.

Wow! You've done some amazing things! Thanks for adding The Purple Nightgown to your TBR list. Hope you love it as much as I loved writing it :)
DeleteI love history and I have always loved to read - and while I wanted to write books as a kid, I find myself ding other kinds of writing now ... but it turns out that my daughter also wants to write! She loves history - turns out that history minor that seemed so strange to get in college is being put to good use as I am now her teacher - and she's writing her first book. We're looking forward to attending her second writing conference next month, where she'll be learning from several of my favorite authors. :-) Who knew that simply reading could open so many doors?
ReplyDeleteIt's amazing how all the little things in life fall into place in unexpected ways <3
DeleteHello Amy! I love lime in my tea. I'm enjoying the True Colors series. I'm looking forward to reading The Purple Nightgown!

I've never tried lime in my tea, but it sounds delicious :)
DeleteWelcome! can't think of anything
ReplyDeletebn100candg at hotmail dot com
I love to read Christian fiction and non-fiction exclusively, and in some circles that makes me unique! I just finished an ARC of The Purple Nightgown. It was one of the best books in the series!
ReplyDeleteThank you for saying that! You made my day!
DeleteCan’t wait to read your book. Congratulations
ReplyDeleteThank you!
DeleteSo nice to "meet" you. Your book sounds great! I have always wanted to be a novelist. I did a variety of other things until the time was right. Now I'm thrilled to have my books in print!!
ReplyDeleteHow amazing! I'll check them out!
DeleteI love to quilt!
ReplyDeleteI've always wanted to learn to quilt :)
DeleteCan’t wait to read The Purple Nightgown. I’ve read everyone of the true colors book series and am addicted. I still watch shows like Dateline, 48 Hours and other real life crime documentaries. I was fascinated with Ted Bundy and read several books about him. The criminal mind is extremely complicated. The non-reality show Criminal Minds was also very interesting to me.
ReplyDeleteOn a lighter note, besides reading and reviewing books I enjoy Crocheting although I’m sure not as advanced as you seem to be. Would love to see some of the things you crochet. I also enjoy RV camping with my husband. We’re trying to do more since we are both retired. This past year had to be put on hold since I had a bad auto accident but I’m recovering well now and hope to get back out at least by May.

I love Criminal Minds too! Glad you're recovering from the accident, and hope you can get back to travelling soon :)
DeleteI prefer writing letters to talking to people on the phone or texting! I have aunts who I correspond with....one for over 70 years! jarning67(at)hotmail(dot)com
ReplyDeleteOh wow! Handwritten letters are so meaningful in this world of emails and texts :)
DeleteI am proficient in Sign Language. (I can 'yell' across a room without raising my voice.)
ReplyDeletemarypres(AT)gmail(DOT)com
What an amazing skill!
DeleteWelcome Amy. Your book sounds great. I am going to add it to my reading list. Lets see, I read on average over 360 books a year, I started reading when I was around 4 and as you can see it is a great passion of mine. It soothes and keeps me calm. Maybe one day I will write my stories too. I collect angels and also keychains from everywhere. Good luck with your upcoming release.

ReplyDeleteI've always thought it would be cool to have a wolf. :)
DeleteHi, Amy! I'm so excited to read The Purple Nightgown and am on an upcoming blog tour for it in March; I've read all the books in the True Colors series thus far. I, too, have had a fascination with true crime, including the forensic aspect, since I was younger. I have always been very introverted and never go anywhere without a book (or three!). All of my furniture is full of books rather than clothes or makeup, and I still don't have enough space!
ReplyDeletelitteraegaudium(at)aol(dot)com
How exciting to know you're on the blog tour. I'm introverted too, and a book is a must for awkward social situations. :)
DeleteWelcome Amy! I love children and baking. I am a true crime tv lover.sheliarha64(at)yahoo(dot)com
ReplyDeleteHey Amy! Congrats on becoming a part of Suspense Sisters and I know you'll be a great one. I'm 63 but was told I would be dead by June 2003! So I've had 18 extra years so far, thanks to God!
ReplyDeleteGod's so good! He's in control no matter what people say :)
DeleteCongratulations Amy and welcome to Suspense Sisters. I'm always stumped when asked about this question. I consider myself quite normal and almost boring but I know that I am uniquely made. I,
ReplyDeleteI love the True Crimes series and looking forward to The Purple Nightgown!
Blessings!
