Autumn, switching gears, being inspired, plus a drawing for a free book .....Roxanne Rustand

Autumn is settling into the Midwest, with cooler days and chilly nights.  Jacket and sweater weather is what I look forward to during hot summer days!

With some trees already starting to turn to their fall colors, it's my favorite time of the year for switching gears, too. Something about it--the beauty perhaps, or the anticipation of bringing out the flannel sheets and down comforters, just makes me feels inspired. Is it a remnant of looking forward to the first day of school when I was young?  So much has changed this year, with the uncertainties of Covid. How about you--do you look back at those days and remember that sense of new beginnings each fall?

This year has has been tough for so many.  The awful news about the pandemic and the horrific weather disasters across the United States has had me in the doldrums.  Though it didn't make national news,  Iowa was hit with sustained 100-140 mph derecho winds--a forty-mile wide swath coming through our area-- that severely damaged or destroyed over 8,000 homes and flattened--destroyed--550,000  acres of corn crops.

How about you--have you been in the path of the terrible forest fires out west? The hurricanes? Drought? I hope you are safe and well.

Despite it all, there's always hope for new beginnings.

Being able to attend church online gives me a sense of peace. Reconnecting with old friends on long phone calls is uplifting. What about you--are you finding ways to deal with all that has been going on? Have you found yourself picking up old hobbies, reading more, starting something new?

During this time spent isolating at home, my dear friend, Lyn Cote, has been spending a lot of time with me on the phone, coaching me on the world of indie (self)  publishing. I'd dabbled a bit before, but I love writing for Love Inspired and didn't keep up with the rapid evolution going on in the world of self-publishing. Thank goodness for Lyn's patience with me!  I now have six Christmas novellas coming out between October 8th and early December.

This is the first one, which is on preorder for 99 cents. Here are its Amazon link and another for the other major online booksellers, in case you'd like to read about it.

  5. We are safe here in Calgary as far as weather is concerned; just a little smoke from the fires west of us. But winter blizzards are not far away; I do not look forward to winter at all. I am in Canada, so unless you are offering an e-book, I am not eligible to win. I read everything LIS.

  6. Hi Beth,
If you win I can definitely send an ebook. How much snow do you get in a year? I've heard Calgary is beautiful, but I've never been there.

  11. There's a big brush fire where I am in southern California (San Diego county), but fortunately I'm not near the fire. I live near the coast and the fire is more inland. Though some smoke and ash did come all the way to the coast. However, they say it's 87% contained now. I love the book cover. It sounds like a very interesting book.

  24. I live on the Oregon coast, so while our area was okay, there was so much devastation around us. So many homes, property and lives destroyed from the fires. The worst we suffered was hazardous air quality, they said it was the worst in the world! I couldn't open my windows most of the week. It's finally cleared enough to be able to do that, I hope I never take fresh air for granted again! My heart breaks for those who've lost everything though, so heartbreaking! :-(

I heard about the wind in Iowa! I grew up in Illinois so that really hit home for me. I only saw a few pictures of the damage, but it was enough to see how bad it really was. Wow! 2020 has been quite a year, hasn't it?

My husband and I have legal guardianship of our 6 yar old granddaughter and school is online for now. So I get to learn along with her how to navigate her classes and lessons! I guess it really is true that you're never too old to learn new things, lol! I remember when my kids were younger how I looked forward to the first day of school...and my "freedom", LOL! I was a stay-at-home mom so it was a welcome break for me during the day.

Congrats on your almost new release Roxanne! I'm sure navigating and learning all the ins and outs of Indy publishing has been a growing experience. May God continue to bless your writing venture!

Thank you for the chance to win a copy of "The Mistletoe Puppy"!

  25. Hi, Roxanne! Thank you for letting us know how you and your family are doing these days. It is such a topsy-turvy world now, more than ever. We must think before acting, stay focused, and keep diligent as we strive to take care of ourselves as well as others. I cannot fathom what it has been like for all those in the flooding and fire areas. Do take care and may God bless you and your family.
