For Moms

Mother's Day is Sunday. To be honest, the holiday kind of crept up on me. I have no idea what or if I will be doing anything with my three kids. Normally, we would probably meet somewhere to eat and visit. Not sure how that would work now. In thinking about the holiday, I know that some women might feel a degree of sadness connected to it because their mom is no longer with us or because they had hoped to have children and were unable to. I get it. As an accidental single person because of my widowhood, Valentine's Day has the same effect on me. Lots of neat memories connected to my late husband, but now some sorrow. I am thinking two of another category of woman who might find the holiday hard, a lady who has lost a child. In my books Undercover Threat the main character Grace Young lost her infant daughter and as a result her marriage fell apart. All of that takes place before the story starts. Grace and her ex-husband are reunited under dangerous circumstances, thrown together in order to stay alive, they must also confront the grief they have never dealt with. I'd love to hear about your plans for Mother's Day, your feelings about the holiday or a story about your mom or someone who was like a mom to you. Leave a comment along with your email address. I will be giving away three copies of Undercover Threat. I leave with a picture of me with my kids. I think we were together for a birthday celebration.

  2. My kids live a thousand miles away so I have to settle for phone calls. :-) And we will have one Sunday afternoon. The book sounds so good!

  3. My kids are 900 miles away so I won’t see them. I am driving 3 hours to go see my 90 years young mama as I missed her birthday because of Covid 19 and I refuse to miss Mother’s Day. I bought her hanging baskets for her porch from my sisters and I as they are unable to come. Hopefully she will come home with me for a bit. Happy and blessed Mother’s Day.

  5. It has snuck up on me as well. The kids and I will most likely get together for dinner. I'm still not ready to expose my parents to anything so we'll probably just do a video call. The book sounds great. Looking forward to reading it. Happy Mother's Day!

  7. My daughter usually takes me to my restaurant of choice but since they are not open yet I guess we will get takeout and go home since I live with her.

  8. First of all, I’m so very sorry for your loss. I can’t imagine your sorrow. Secondly, thank you for the kindness of considering barren women. This is the one day a year that I usually willingly skip out on church service. It’s simply too painful. We’ve been married for almost 8 years and we were actually in the process of preparing for IVF this year but our plans have been put on hold until things get back to normal. It has been a discouraging time but I rest in the knowledge that none of this took God by surprise and He has a perfect plan and timing. We celebrated with my mom last Saturday since my sister and her family were visiting. We had a picnic outside and it was a beautiful day. (There were only 8 of us so we were still under the 10 person limit.) It was the first time we’ve all got together since the lockdown started. My parents’ neighbor shot off fireworks that evening and it was a beautiful moment as we all watched the sky light up. Freedom feels like a whole new word. I’m thankful for it now more than ever. Happy Mother’s Day to you and all of the mothers this weekend.

    1. thank you so much for sharing. such struggle. I am learning as a widow that most things in church center around families while I am glad that the church does that, it means I have to find my place in a new way.

  9. My daughter usually takes me out to eat sometime around Mother's Day, but it be like that this year with the stay at home order. So, we probably won't be doing anything.
It's a sad day for me! I lost my mom 18 years ago and still miss her especially on days like Mother's Day. My mom and I were very close. You see, there were seven of us children and six of them were boys. (Yes, I lived to tell about it!)

  11. Would love to win a print copy of this book, Sharon! Thanks for the wonderful opportunity to enter this giveaway! In regard to Mother's Day, not sure yet what we're doing (my husband and I) as we are still "sheltering-in-place". . . My husband had his Mother go to be with the Lord a couple weeks ago, so we are dealing with her absence, so appreciate the prayers. My own Mother went to be with the Lord a few years ago, (she and her husband had been Christian missionaries in Paraguay for 36 years, where my bother and I grew up, where we had worked with primitive Indian tribes). Now, my husband (who is a minister), and I, serve the Lord in Deer Lodge, MT. . . As always, we are grateful for your prayers. Lual Krautter Email: krautter41120@outlook.com

  13. Having never been able to have kids myself, Mother's Day is hard on me too. Right now, my mom is having a rough time with her health and I can't see her. It's hard and I am having to take care of my brother because he contracted Congestive Heart Failure because of Covid19 so it's definitely going to be a rough day! But I can't imagine losing my husband! Prayers for you! clhutson1016(at)gmail(dot)com.

  16. This will be my third Mother’s Day without my mom. But I have two amazing kids that I know I’ll see with their spouses and two wonderful grandkids. Whatever they want to do will be fine with me because I’m still in recovery from an auto accident I had in February. I’m fortunate that my daughter and her family live right across the street and my son and DIL live just across town.
There is a special relationship between a mother and daughter like no other. I didn’t really realize it until after my mother was no longer with me. If you still have your mother cherish her while you are still able.

  17. I'm definitely in the minority here when I say I really don't look forward to mother's day. Yes, I have two kids who are now adults but I've not really felt very "maternal". I don't know if that makes a lot of sense or not, but there it is. I think because I was a mom for the first time WAY before I was ready at 20yrs old.

Anyway, we usually go out to eat, but this year my husband is grilling steaks, potatoes and corn on the cob at home. We'll just have a chill kinda day, which suits me just fine :-) The one thing I miss is spending time with my own mom, who lives in New Zealand. I love that I can video chat with her though!

  18. Even though it has been several years since our mom went to Heaven, I think of my mom often, especially on Mother's Day. My sister's response to your question: "There is one special person who is like a mother to me and I appreciate her friendship and help over the years."

  19. Our son lives 45 minutes away with his wife and two gradeschool boys. Our daughter lives with her hubby and 4 kids 9 hours away in Texas. Our other son lives 2 1/2 hours away in St. Louis. We are retired and just trying to keep to our house as much as possible. My birthday is next week. Hope shopping opens up!
