Life in the time of the coronavirus .....Roxanne Rustand

Hi everyone,

Wishing you my very best while we all deal with the Coronavirus.

My heart breaks over the stories of people who were barely subsisting on minimum wage paychecks, and who have now lost those jobs. Over anyone who has lost their job, had to shutter a business, who has their children home from school for the foreseeable future and needs to work but has no childcare for the little ones. And the elderly who have limited money, no transportation and must somehow get to a grocery store only to find the shelves bare.

In our area, there has been the canceling of non-essential medical appointments, and canceling of non-emergency surgeries, to keep beds, staff, and supplies free for increasing Covid-19 cases.  Here is a sign at the Iowa University Hospitals and Clinics which limits even families of surgery patients to a single visitor per day. Can you imagine sitting alone in the waiting room for hours throughout a loved one's very serious surgery? Yet, it's all good--for the health of the hospital patients who are already in compromised health.

I'm so glad that this country is now taking Covid-19 very seriously, to help save lives. And I pray that we will all get past this with less illness and loss of life than predicted.

How are you all coping with this? Are you in an area where you've been told to shelter in place?

In light of the extra time at home for some folks, that none of us would've predicted just months earlier, have you taken on some big projects at home? Found excellent books to read from your TBR stacks?

Do you have any recommendations for good books to read--old favorites or new? Recommendations for fun projects for yourself, or for entertaining kids who are at home?

Leave a comment, and the winner of a drawing can choose any book from my newest and throughout my backlist!  If I no longer have what the winner would like, a different book can be chosen.

All my best,
Roxanne Rustand

  1. WE are staying in 'cause we're high risk. So glad I love to read, and I have your Snow Canyon series to read and am collecting Big Sky Secrets series (thanks to a book buddy)! Love your books. Thanks for your giveaway. Keep safe!

  3. Things aren't much different for me. I'm always home with our 2 little ones and don't go out much anyway. The change in store hours has been difficult for us. My husband works nights so he would stop off and get groceries at 3am. So now he has to try to do that before he heads into work in the afternoon. I no longer run with the kids to pick up a few things to keep them out of crowded stores and lots of germs. Praying we all stay well! Thank you for the giveaway. nstotts@sbcglobal.net

  4. My son, daughter-in-law and two little grandchildren came to stay with me so I can help care for the littles. All 3 of us adults are fortunate enough to work from home (me always, they through this medical crisis) which is a true blessing. Thanks for the chance to win one of your books!

  5. I'm a senior citizen and ventured out yesterday to the grocery store. It was encouraging to see bread, milk, eggs, and toilet paper back in stock. My part-time job is on hold right now since it involves working with students after school. Since I'm an introvert and love time alone, I'm highly entertained. I'm even doing an exercise class in my living room using an Internet video. Also I'm getting some of my cleaning and straightening projects done. Thank you for giving away one of your books.

  7. We were already self-isolating when the shelter in place order came through, and being retired staying at home isn't a hardship. We have had some medical procedures cancelled for now but are fortunate enough to have enough supplies to be comfortable. There is plenty to do - read, talk, just relax and be thankful for what we do have.

  8. We are retired and hanging out at home as normal. We are homeschooling/ babysitting an 8 yr old. And I have starting putting in my garden in case we are relying on it for food this summer. We have chickens and eggs so no matter what, we wont go hungry. I am doing a little more reading and quilting then before. But otherwise, life is normal.

  11. I'm working on a couple of manuscripts...and trying to find something to do for 17 employees of our nonprofit--we do classes in the schools on abstinence...hoping to get some of the bored kids to tune in on line. :-)

  12. I’m home most of the time anyway but my mom will be 90 on Saturday and I won’t be making the three hour trip as we don’t want to take the chance on exposing her as my hubby is still working construction at this time. I’m so sad as this is her first birthday without my daddy since she was 17.

  13. Yep, shelter in place BUT we are working...essential functions! Kids are home. It’s been tough but we are blessed to have a job and I’m thankful!

  14. We are "sheltered-in-place" as is prudent, keeping busy at home with clerical "stuff," resting, and, of course, reading. . . Would love to win a print book. I've already read "Snowbound with the Cowboy" so would prefer a different print book of CF Romantic Suspense, if possible:) Thanks for the opportunity to enter a giveaway!
