Konmari, my office and long winter days...Roxanne Rustand

Do you find it's easier to tackle indoor projects during the short, dark days of winter? The temptation to be outside sure isn't very strong here in Iowa, given all the snow and the ice layer underneath!

I will never be a minimalist, but the main concept of Marie Kondo's book The Life Changing Magic of Tidying Up (which I interpret as simply "get rid of stuff I don't truly need!") has inspired me.

Ev
ery few months I tackle another project, and currently, it's my office. This time I'm going through every last storage tub in the closet, every document in the file cabinet, every novel, every book and magazine on writing.

Good heavens! How did I have so much tucked away in there? With everything now stacked out in the family room, I took a photo to add to this post...but I'm too embarrassed to show it!  Even after hauling away four laundry baskets of books, loads of recycling and multiple black trash bags of shredded papers, I have a ways to go! But when it's done, I can envision a sweet sense of peace, of feeling lighter and more motivated than ever to get back to work on my next book.

Are you tackling some extra projects these days? Doing something special this winter?  Leave a comment and be entered in a drawing. Four winners can choose one of my books (38 paperback titles, plus three e-books and five novellas) from my latest releases all the way back to the first one from 1999!

Blessings,
Roxanne Rustand

    1. What a blessing you are to him...and what a huge job that must be. He is so fortunate to have family to help him.

Bless you, for all you do!

    2. I take care of my dad who has dementia. He's 93. Mostly I try to keep him from eating all the food. He sometimes forgets that he eats and asks for food again.

  3. Not really doing anything special. Since I live with my daughter I don’t have much I have to do except clean my room and take care of my dog. I do take on the job of cleaning the kitchen most days.

    1. That's exactly what I am thinking, too. No set year, but I feel good about downsizing now while I still can easily handle it myself and not leave everything to our kids. It's so different now---I treasure everything that was passed down to me, but the millennials seems to have less interest in hanging on to the past!

  12. The list of "to do" is never ending. Sometimes I feel when I complete one that I should just put it back on the list at the bottom. Understand what you're saying about things accumulating so fast and everywhere. Each time I do a "spring" cleaning (even if in the winter), I say this isn't going to happen. I think gremlins do it!

My current project (more of an on going one) is to put old photographs onto the computer. The goal is to eventually have them on a disc. We all know that we would like to enjoy our old photographs more or we think of one in particular that we need, but not very often do we lug out the big and heavy photo albums to do so. I know I don't because they are stored way back on the high shelf in the closet.

Thank you for the opportunity to win one of your books! Good luck with the office and may you be able to keep those gremlins at bay better than I seem to.

  21. I struggle with energy in the winter months when you are inside and need to get everything done so when summer hits you don't have to be stuck inside. The little ones love to spend every moment outside so I don't get through a lot of what needs done in the summer. Thank goodness for a basement where the overflow can wait on me lol. Thank you for the giveaway!

  29. I know that a lot of lovers are successful with Weight Loss, however I sort of overlooked Weight Loss. That's cut and dry. Some companies provide a partial guarantee on Keto BodyTone Weight Loss. Where do they begin? I'll teach you in reference to Weight Loss. It's the time to learn something new. It's better to leave that unspoken while reading this is like sitting in your doctor's reception area. We'll not let this get distorted by Weight Loss. You need to factor that in.

  30. I went from living in about 3000 sq feet with three kids to 750 sq feet by myself with just my dog. Major downsize. With the exception of some things stored in the garage (Christmas decorations, kids school projects etc) everything I need is in my almost tiny house. I have dishes for six people.

  37. I'm cleaning out closets, going through clothes and donating everything to the Salvation Army. When I'm done with that I have 2 afghans to put together. I got behind on things, my neighbor has short term memory loss, and started taking to much medication, she didn't remember taking them. So I moved in with her. Give her medication, and make sure she eats. She started to have seizures, and mini strokes.
