My favorite Valentine's Day Memory ~ Win a box of Valentine's Day Candy!

Similar to people who were born on Christmas Day, my birthday is two days before Valentine’s Day. In addition, I used to work for the largest candy manufacturer in the country, with unlimited access to chocolate. So who would ever buy me a heart-shaped box of confections? I realized early in life that this romantic holiday would never generate more than a greeting card, whether from my parents or my sweetheart. Imagine my shock when I walked into the house after a long day at work and found candles lit, supper made and a stack of wrapped gifts in the center of the table. Okay, maybe just a stack of two….but I was thrilled. Not just for new pink nightgown and peach-scented candles, but for the fact my husband accomplished my least favorite chore of the day—cooking dinner. I am here to testify take-out rotisserie chicken, bagged salad, and Stove-Top stuffing has never tasted so good. That Valentine’s Day, I fell asleep knowing I was still cherished by my college sweetheart. Ever since that day, a greeting card now works magic for me…even if he uses the same card year after year.

Leave me a comment for a chance to win a box of candy. Sorry, U.S. only!

  3. This is so sweet. I have two memories. The first: I was in school full time, and working part time. We had only one child, at that time, but I was STRETCHED! My husband and 10 yr old son, greeted me with dinner, candles, an beautifully set table, and they were my waiters for the evening, including white napkins draped over their arms. He died 6 yrs later on Feb. 5th, but that memory makes me smile and warms my heart to this day. :)

My now husband surprises me with special gifts on every holiday, and each birthday. His cards are so bad, though, they make me smile. :)

  6. I have a granddtr. born on Valentine's so her breakfast pancakes today may have been heart-shaped. Well put, and the plot details of your newest book sound great. Delores Topliff, 1203 Pinecrest Rd., Corinth, MS 38834

  9. My husband and I rarely did anything for Valentine's day. We were always short of cash, but needless, I always tried to make a nice dinner. I didn't need a reminder of how much my husband loves me...I know he does!! r

  13. For many years my husband and I couldn't afford gifts to give each other for Valentine's Day but we always have each other a card. Sometimes purchased, sometimes handmade. Today we have a little more money but we don't feel the need to spend money. We treasure our life together and that is the best gift of all!
    Happy Valentine's Day!!

  16. Thank you for sharing your story. Was it Hershey’s where you worked? That’s my favorite chocolate! My husband does not like Italian food but one Valentines he took me to Olive Garden because he knows I love it. We even waited a long time for a table!

  17. Oh what a treat to come home and have dinner and presents waiting for you Mary!! My husband does not cook, so I certainly can understand what a thrill it would be to find it all done...even if it is store bought 😊 What a sweet & loving gesture!

Having access to chocolate would be dangerous thing in this house...lol!! But I wonder, being around it all day everyday,if you wouldn't get tired of looking at it?

I also had to laugh at your "even if he uses the same card every year" comment. Maybe he found the perfect one and no other can say what he wants 😉😊 It's the thought that counts, right?

Thanks for sharing your Valentine story and the giveaway chance!
