What are you reading this year?

by Patricia Bradley

Can you believe Christmas has come and gone and January is half over? It won’t be long until it’s June and we’re shaking our heads about how fast the year is flying.

Have you made any New Year’s resolutions? I’ve made the usual…lose ten pounds, exercise more…well, I actually didn’t resolve to exercise more—I already go to the gym for an hour a day six days a week most of the time. I did resolve to get better organized, and if you have any suggestions, I would greatly appreciate it.

Last year I made a concerted effort to read more. But, alas, I didn’t keep up with how many books I read. This year will be different! Know why? Because I signed up for the Goodreads Challenge. And I committed to reading 100 52 books. (I don’t know what I was thinking when I originally signed up for 100!)

How about you? Are you up for a challenge? To be entered in a drawing for a $10 Amazon gift card, leave a comment telling how many books you plan to read this year. And if you’d like an easy way to keep up with them, go to Goodreads and sign up for their challenge.

And if you're looking for something to read, a couple of my books are on sale right now. My first book Shadows of the Past is free! And the second book in the Memphis Cold Case series is on sale for $1.99. You can find the purchase links here.

Don't forget to leave a comment to be entered in the drawing!

  2. I don't keep track, but I think Goodreads challenges help authors! I don't finish some of the books I read. And I only do that at night. Mystery and suspense are my favorite genre's and they are hard to put down at a reasonable hour.

    1. I only read at night, too, Debra, so it makes it a little hard to get as many books read as I'd like. Thanks for stopping by!

  5. I would love to read one book per week but I will be realistic and set my goal at 40. Maybe then I can be happily surprised! Thanks for your giveaway.

  9. I'm just finishing up A Song Unheard by Roseanna White. A very good historical fiction.
Last year was my first year to do the goodreads reading challenge, and I loved being able to track my books read. Trying for a bit higher than last year, who knows if I'll actually make that or not... ;)

  10. I started the Goodreads challenge last year. I optimistically set my goal at 150 this year (but have only completed 3 so far). I listen to a lot of audio books so that helps. That's how I read your last 2!

  14. I love Goodreads!! I started tracking what books I read (in an Excel spreadsheet) when I got about 1/3 of a way through a book and realized I had read it. When I found Goodreads it was a "God send." The last couple of years I've set goals of 52 books, but last year I ended up reading something like 83. So, this year my goal is 75 and I've already finished 3 and abandoned one.
And I'm SURE the newest Patricia Bradley book will be on my list!!! :)

  18. I love keeping track of my reading on Goodreads. This year I signed up for 60 knowing that when we hit baseball season my available time to read will drop off dramatically. I have already finished 4 though so that is a good start.

  20. This past year my count went down, but we had an eventful year. I'm hoping for a much quieter year with maybe 52 books to be read! That at least gives me one a week. :)

  21. I did goodreads last year and made my goal of 150 books plus 2 so this year it’s going to be 175. So far I’m on track. Just finished Revenge by you, Pat. Great suspenseful tale! Even though it’s a novella .... they count in the goodreads challenge! Those are what I read to kick start or get ahead when the challenge tells me I’m behind! Then there are the Challenges! Trying to fit what I read into the challenges! Novellas work well there , too there are several Christian groups on good reads, they are fun and have those challenges!
I’m reading two books right now one on my kindle : Always Watching by Lynette Eason and a paperback: Across the Blue by Carrie Turansky. Happy reading!

  22. Thank you, Paula! I've read Always Watching--great book! Will have to check out Across the Blue by Carrie. Thanks for stopping by!

  23. Oh, I signed up for the Goodreads Challenge. I wrote 100 books down but, will probably go past that. The reason for that is that (depending on the book length) I read at least five to six books a week. I only read books by Christian authors.

  27. Hello, I am reading Colleen Coble's Twilight at Blueberry Barrens. I have your two newest on my TBR list on Goodreads! I did the challenge last year and came in just in the nick of time with 42 books. So this year my challenge is 60. :)

  29. I'm on my second year of the Goodreads challenge! Last year my goal was 100 and I ended up doing 115. Same goal this year so I'm hoping to exceed it again...we'll see ;-) Lots of good books on my immediate TBR pile with more to add as books come out, I'm sure.

I don't make resolutions and never had. I know some people do the word of the year and if I were to choose one, the one that came to mind recently is Seek. So I'm trying to make an effort to Seek God in everyday things and especially listen for His voice. I'm also doing more in-depth Bible study and it's really deepened my understanding. I'm loving it :-)

Thanks for the giveaway chance Patricia! I have both of your Memphis Cold Case series books and looking forward to the third one!
