Now more about Mary!

Bio: Mary Alford was inspired to become a writer after reading romantic suspense greats Victoria Holt and Phyllis Whitney. Soon creating characters and throwing them into dangerous situations that test their faith came naturally for Mary. In 2012 Mary entered the Speed Dating contest hosted by Love Inspired Suspense and later received “the call”. In addition to writing for Love Inspired Suspense, Mary also writes Christian romance and sweet romance. Being a published author has been a dream come true for Mary.

And now, let's hear from Mary:

If you had to describe yourself in one sentence, what would you say?

MA: A quiet woman living in a loud world.

What do you do when you’re not writing? Any interesting hobbies?

MA: I love gardening, although I don’t really have a green thumb and to date, I have only managed to grow tomatoes. Still, the act of digging in the dirt is cathartic.

In addition to gardening, I like to do crafts with the granddaughters. They come up with such creative ideas.

What was your favorite book as a teen or child?

MA: I grew up reading Nancy Drew and the Hardy Boys, then graduated to Victoria Holt and Phyllis Whitney. I’d say my favorite book was Victoria Holt’s, On The Night Of The Seventh Moon.

Tell us three things about yourself that might surprise your readers.

MA: I’m a huge introvent and I hate talking about myself, which isn’t always a good thing for a author. I grew up in a very small Texas town that had a population of less than a thousand, and I once wanted to be a spy…guess that’s why I still write about them.

What genre did you start out writing? Have you changed course? Why or why not?

MA: When I first started writing, I wrote romantic suspense, then I started reading Christian suspense and I knew that was where God wanted me to be.

What has been the toughest criticism given to you as an author? What has been the best compliment?

MA: I think the toughest criticism for me is when someone points out a typo in my book

The best compliment is when readers tell me that my book brightened their day.

Any other genres you’d like to try? If yes, what and why?

MA: Oh yes. I adore reading anything Amish and I am working on my first Amish romance.

If you could go back in time and do something differently at the start of your career, what would it be?

MA: I wished that I had been more informed concerning the publishing industry. I feel as if I’ve kind of felt my way through the publishing process at times.

What is the most important thing you’d like readers to take away from your books?

MA: A good story with a satisifying ending that reflects God throughtout the book.

What is the most valuable piece of advice you’d like to give to unpublished authors?

MA: Writing is a tough business and you have to be strong. Keep writing no matter how many rejection letters you get, because that is what a writer does.

Deadly Memories

WOMAN WITHOUT A PAST

Amnesia may be keeping Ella Weiss from remembering her past—but not from saving the little boy who's been her fellow prisoner the last seven years. After managing to escape her cell, all she wants is to find where little Joseph is being kept. Instead she runs straight into CIA agent Kyle Jennings. Kyle isn't sure if Ella is actually a kidnap victim or if she's working for the gunrunner he's been after. One thing he is certain of is her uncanny resemblance to the wife he thought he'd buried. To save a child's life and stop a terrorist from slipping through his fingers, he'll need to uncover the secrets of Ella's past—and whether or not she's really the woman he's never stopped loving.
