Then farther down to "Books you may like." </span><p></p><p><span style="font-size: medium;">Do you do this, too? Just by looking at a cover, book title, and subtitle, I can sometimes find books I want to explore. </span></p><p><span style="font-size: medium;"><br /></span></p><p><span style="font-size: medium;">I know those details have been carefully planned by the authors (at least those who are experienced) to show a great deal about the book--and avoid misleading buyers into a purchase they might regret. Even the font used on a cover can convey useful information. Is it fun and swirly? Intense?</span></p><p><span style="font-size: medium;">I was so naive when I first started publishing with Amazon. </span></p><p><span style="font-size: medium;">I found photos of lovely flowers or landscape scenes, and asked my cover artist to use them. </span></p><p><span style="font-size: medium;">I also came up with what I thought were pretty titles, without a thought about actually conveying what the book was about. And I didn't know how to write book descriptions for Amazon, either.</span></p><p><span style="font-size: medium;">When I look back at my abysmal sales during those early years, I actually feel gratitude. No one would have guessed those books were romantic suspense! And if readers bought them expecting to read a nice contemporary romance novel, they would have been deeply disappointed.</span></p><p><span style="font-size: medium;">It's all about branding, really. A way to convey information about a specific book, a book series, and also about the author.</span></p><p><span style="font-size: medium;">For example, I write both Christian Romantic Suspense and Clean Romantic suspense, so I use those labels as my book subtitles. The book titles themselves are meant to convey that the book is a suspense. </span></p><p><span style="font-size: medium;">If you look at the wonderful books shown here on the Suspensesisters blog, or do a search on Amazon for a category like "Top 100 Christian Romantic Suspense," you can see how authors do this. Clarity is important, for the best reader experience! </span></p><p><span style="font-size: medium;">My brand (my promise to readers) is that in addition to suspense and romance, they will find a warm thread involving family relationships, and a thread of faith--but with a lighter touch in the books labeled "Clean romance." And I always include an animal of some kind that makes a difference to a character in the story. </span></p><p><span style="font-size: medium;">I hope including that animal on my book covers visually alludes to deeper emotion and warmth, as opposed to covers promising a gritty or far more intense read. Usually, it's a dog. My new release is just a bit different--with a nosy llama! </span></p><p><span style="font-size: medium;"> <br />Here is a <b><a href="https://www.amazon.com/FINAL-TRUTH-romantic-suspense-Montana-ebook/dp/B0CTHSWMZD/">quick link</a></b> to FINAL TRUTH in case you would like to buy or just take a look.</span></p><p><span style="font-size: medium;">What are your thoughts about book titles and cover art? Do they help spur your interest in looking at a book's Amazon page, or do you mostly go by author names?</span></p><p><span style="font-size: medium;"><br /></span></p><p><span style="font-size: medium;">Wishing you all a happy Easter!</span></p><p><span style="font-size: medium;">Roxanne Rustand</span></p><p><span style="font-size: medium;"><br /></span></p><p><span style="font-size: medium;"><br /></span></p><p><br /></p>RoxanneRustandhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/03443712316288965799noreply@blogger.com2tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-641599238951031625.post-26637411617632856842024-03-12T23:30:00.000-07:002024-03-12T23:30:00.138-07:00Interview with Author Dana R. <p class="MsoNormal"><b><span style="font-size: 14pt; line-height: 107%; mso-bidi-font-family: Calibri; mso-bidi-theme-font: minor-latin;">First, tell us a
little about your latest release: <o:p></o:p></span></b></p>
<p class="MsoNormal"><span style="font-size: 14pt; line-height: 107%; mso-bidi-font-family: Calibri; mso-bidi-theme-font: minor-latin;">The title is <u><a href="https://bit.ly/48TmhGn " target="_blank">Explosive Reunion</a></u>.
I’m really excited about this book. It’s my first completely original indie
release. I’d been wanting to write about Trevor Stone since 2015. </span></p><p class="MsoNormal"><span style="font-size: 14pt; line-height: 107%; mso-bidi-font-family: Calibri; mso-bidi-theme-font: minor-latin;">Here’s the
back blurb: <o:p></o:p></span><span style="font-size: 14pt;">Madelyn Blake has worked hard to get
where she is professionally and to be present to her twin daughters. An abusive
relationship has taught her to be wary. It has also shaken her trust in God.
When she becomes the target of a killer who enjoys using fire and explosives,
her entire life is put on hold.</span></p>
<p class="MsoNormal"><span style="font-size: 14.0pt; line-height: 107%; mso-bidi-font-family: Calibri; mso-bidi-theme-font: minor-latin;"> </span></p>
<p class="MsoNormal"><span style="font-size: 14.0pt; line-height: 107%; mso-bidi-font-family: Calibri; mso-bidi-theme-font: minor-latin;">Trevor Stone appears to be a shy,
mild-mannered man, but he has seen the worst of people. Still, he retains his
unwavering faith that God is in control of everything. As a technician in a
bomb squad unit, he has honed his ability to keep calm and clear thinking in
life and death situations. When his former best friend is in danger, Trevor
puts all his skills to work to keep her and her adorable little girls safe and
stop the killer.<o:p></o:p></span></p>
<p class="MsoNormal"><span style="font-size: 14.0pt; line-height: 107%; mso-bidi-font-family: Calibri; mso-bidi-theme-font: minor-latin;"> </span></p>
<p class="MsoNormal"><span style="font-size: 14.0pt; line-height: 107%; mso-bidi-font-family: Calibri; mso-bidi-theme-font: minor-latin;">As the danger escalates, Maddie and
Trevor struggle with their growing feelings for each other while trying to
outwit a killer who is always one step ahead of them. Will they survive and get
a second chance at love?<o:p></o:p></span></p>
<p class="MsoNormal"><span style="font-size: 14pt; line-height: 107%; mso-bidi-font-family: Calibri; mso-bidi-theme-font: minor-latin;"><o:p> </o:p></span></p>
<p class="MsoNormal"><b><span style="font-size: 14pt; line-height: 107%; mso-bidi-font-family: Calibri; mso-bidi-theme-font: minor-latin;">If you had to
describe yourself in one sentence, what would you say? <o:p></o:p></span></b></p>
<p class="MsoNormal"><span style="font-size: 14pt; line-height: 107%; mso-bidi-font-family: Calibri; mso-bidi-theme-font: minor-latin;">I would describe myself as an
extroverted introvert. I heard that phrase once and felt like it fit. I’m quiet
until I know you. But once I do, watch out. I do love to talk!<o:p></o:p></span></p>
<p class="MsoNormal"><span style="font-size: 14pt; line-height: 107%; mso-bidi-font-family: Calibri; mso-bidi-theme-font: minor-latin;"><o:p> </o:p></span></p>
<p class="MsoNormal"><b><span style="font-size: 14pt; line-height: 107%; mso-bidi-font-family: Calibri; mso-bidi-theme-font: minor-latin;">What do you do
when you’re not writing? Any interesting hobbies? <o:p></o:p></span></b></p>
<p class="MsoNormal"><span style="font-size: 14pt; line-height: 107%; mso-bidi-font-family: Calibri; mso-bidi-theme-font: minor-latin;">Besides reading, I love learning. I
taught myself some Spanish by listening to music and translating it. I am
currently teaching myself to crochet. I also love music and singing, as well as
walking and watching movies. <o:p></o:p></span></p>
<p class="MsoNormal"><span style="font-size: 14pt; line-height: 107%; mso-bidi-font-family: Calibri; mso-bidi-theme-font: minor-latin;"><o:p> </o:p></span></p>
<p class="MsoNormal"><b><span style="font-size: 14pt; line-height: 107%; mso-bidi-font-family: Calibri; mso-bidi-theme-font: minor-latin;">What was your
favorite book as a teen or child? <o:p></o:p></span></b></p>
<p class="MsoNormal"><span style="font-size: 14pt; line-height: 107%; mso-bidi-font-family: Calibri; mso-bidi-theme-font: minor-latin;">This is a tricky one, as there were
several. I read <u>The Outsiders</u> and <u>the Emily of New Moon</u> trilogy
multiple times. <o:p></o:p></span></p>
<p class="MsoNormal"><span style="font-size: 14pt; line-height: 107%; mso-bidi-font-family: Calibri; mso-bidi-theme-font: minor-latin;"><o:p> </o:p></span></p>
<p class="MsoNormal"><b><span style="font-size: 14pt; line-height: 107%; mso-bidi-font-family: Calibri; mso-bidi-theme-font: minor-latin;">Tell us three
things about yourself that might surprise your readers. <o:p></o:p></span></b></p>
<p class="MsoNormal"><span style="font-size: 14pt; line-height: 107%; mso-bidi-font-family: Calibri; mso-bidi-theme-font: minor-latin;">Let’s see. 1. I’m a huge Jane Austen
fan. In fact, I have a second penname, D.R. Lynn, specifically so I can publish
regency titles. So far, I have two <u>Pride and Prejudice</u> Variation
novellas out.<span style="mso-spacerun: yes;"> </span>2.<span style="mso-spacerun: yes;"> </span>I am a bit of a Trekkie. My husband and I
have watched every episode of the Original Series, The Next Generation and
Voyager together several times, although we haven’t watched any of the newer
series.<span style="mso-spacerun: yes;"> </span>3. I am a certified Educational
Interpreter for the Deaf and Hard of Hearing. <o:p></o:p></span></p>
<p class="MsoNormal"><span style="font-size: 14pt; line-height: 107%; mso-bidi-font-family: Calibri; mso-bidi-theme-font: minor-latin;"><o:p> </o:p></span></p>
<p class="MsoNormal"><b><span style="font-size: 14pt; line-height: 107%; mso-bidi-font-family: Calibri; mso-bidi-theme-font: minor-latin;">What genre did
you start out writing? Have you changed course? Why or why not?<span style="mso-spacerun: yes;"> </span><o:p></o:p></span></b></p>
<p class="MsoNormal"><span style="font-size: 14pt; line-height: 107%; mso-bidi-font-family: Calibri; mso-bidi-theme-font: minor-latin;">I started trying to write regency
romance but changed course when Signet Regency Romance stopped publishing new
books. I then started trying to write inspirational contemporary romance. I had
a book submitted to Love Inspired when Love Inspired Suspense held the Search
for the Killer Voice pitch contest. When I was offered a contract, I pulled my
LI submission. I still have it and doubt it will ever see the light of day.<o:p></o:p></span></p>
<p class="MsoNormal"><span style="font-size: 14pt; line-height: 107%; mso-bidi-font-family: Calibri; mso-bidi-theme-font: minor-latin;"><o:p> </o:p></span></p>
<p class="MsoNormal"><b><span style="font-size: 14pt; line-height: 107%; mso-bidi-font-family: Calibri; mso-bidi-theme-font: minor-latin;">What has been the
toughest criticism given to you as an author? What has been the best
compliment? <o:p></o:p></span></b></p>
<p class="MsoNormal"><span style="font-size: 14pt; line-height: 107%; mso-bidi-font-family: Calibri; mso-bidi-theme-font: minor-latin;">The toughest criticism was that one of
my heroes was unlikeable and that the editor felt they couldn’t root for him.
Which was sad because I really loved my grouchy hero. On the other hand, the
best compliment I ever got was from a reader who read a book where the heroine
had a huge challenge. The reader had the same challenge and she said I was the
first writer who she’d felt understood what she went through daily.<o:p></o:p></span></p>
<p class="MsoNormal"><span style="font-size: 14pt; line-height: 107%; mso-bidi-font-family: Calibri; mso-bidi-theme-font: minor-latin;"><o:p> </o:p></span></p>
<p class="MsoNormal"><b><span style="font-size: 14pt; line-height: 107%; mso-bidi-font-family: Calibri; mso-bidi-theme-font: minor-latin;">Any other genres
you’d like to try? If yes, what, and why?<o:p></o:p></span></b></p>
<p class="MsoNormal"><span style="font-size: 14pt; line-height: 107%; mso-bidi-font-family: Calibri; mso-bidi-theme-font: minor-latin;">Well, as I said, I’m trying to do some
regency. It was my first love when I started reading romance. The other genre I
am studying currently with an eye towards possibly tackling one day is dual
time. I love the complicated ways the two timelines intersect.<o:p></o:p></span></p>
<p class="MsoNormal"><span style="font-size: 14pt; line-height: 107%; mso-bidi-font-family: Calibri; mso-bidi-theme-font: minor-latin;"><o:p> </o:p></span></p>
<p class="MsoNormal"><b><span style="font-size: 14pt; line-height: 107%; mso-bidi-font-family: Calibri; mso-bidi-theme-font: minor-latin;">If you could go
back in time and do something differently at the start of your career, what
would it be? <o:p></o:p></span></b></p>
<p class="MsoNormal"><span style="font-size: 14pt; line-height: 107%; mso-bidi-font-family: Calibri; mso-bidi-theme-font: minor-latin;">Honestly, I think I would read up more
on the publishers and genres and figure out what I wanted to write. I wasted
time getting distracted by every shiny thing instead of finishing one project
and making it the best it could be.<o:p></o:p></span></p>
<p class="MsoNormal"><span style="font-size: 14pt; line-height: 107%; mso-bidi-font-family: Calibri; mso-bidi-theme-font: minor-latin;"><o:p> </o:p></span></p>
<p class="MsoNormal"><b><span style="font-size: 14pt; line-height: 107%; mso-bidi-font-family: Calibri; mso-bidi-theme-font: minor-latin;">What is the most
important thing you’d like readers to take away from your books? <o:p></o:p></span></b></p>
<p class="MsoNormal"><span style="font-size: 14pt; line-height: 107%; mso-bidi-font-family: Calibri; mso-bidi-theme-font: minor-latin;">There is no problem big enough that
God can’t work through it and bring His redemptive grace.<o:p></o:p></span></p>
<p class="MsoNormal"><span style="font-size: 14pt; line-height: 107%; mso-bidi-font-family: Calibri; mso-bidi-theme-font: minor-latin;"><o:p> </o:p></span></p>
<p class="MsoNormal"><b><span style="font-size: 14pt; line-height: 107%; mso-bidi-font-family: Calibri; mso-bidi-theme-font: minor-latin;">What is the most
valuable piece of advice you’d like to give to unpublished authors? <o:p></o:p></span></b></p>
<p class="MsoNormal"><span style="font-size: 14pt; line-height: 107%; mso-bidi-font-family: Calibri; mso-bidi-theme-font: minor-latin;">Study your genre and the industry. If
you are targeting a publisher, get to know the books they publish, read them,
and read the guidelines. And persevere. We all get rejected and face criticism.
Even when it hurts, learn what you can from it and move on.<o:p></o:p></span></p>

They'd found her again? Who was stalking her and why?<br /><br />Jake Bradley uses his widely popular "Jake on the Road" articles to help him continue to follow leads into Lisa's past, but he didn't expect the people whom he spoke with to be attacked and killed. How could he possibly protect this woman who had become so important to him when he so miserably failed at learning about her past and why someone had killed her parents?<br /><br />So many secrets whirl around in this second chronicle of the Home Found series. Lisa and Jake learn more about her past, and about each other, in this dramatic suspense. <p></p><p><span style="font-family: verdana;">You can purchase it <a href="https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0CTB1F39G" target="_blank">here.</a></span></p><p style="text-align: center;"><span style="font-family: verdana;"><span style="font-size: large;"><i><span style="color: red;">We love books! </span></i></span></span></p><p style="text-align: center;"><span style="font-family: verdana;"><span style="font-size: large;"><i></i></span></span></p><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><span style="font-size: large;"><i><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEi1_pT2_PcRmrpcFhsJ71w5YokddC8zlWwtN4wTyGRimt8VM10qIrU9aN7uMkgAtbH4ZDWT7iI8MrXbXrm8SyQBlK2n1Nb1pbG7XwD5EI0v-VfZac60Fbxx9ka2s-b8I_F6qBSBzcvBjFlc-wL_ZOiV2UJzSt-2gH6y_D8N8e_v3INGwwMbdKbIHraf6eha/s800/Love%20Books.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="534" data-original-width="800" height="214" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEi1_pT2_PcRmrpcFhsJ71w5YokddC8zlWwtN4wTyGRimt8VM10qIrU9aN7uMkgAtbH4ZDWT7iI8MrXbXrm8SyQBlK2n1Nb1pbG7XwD5EI0v-VfZac60Fbxx9ka2s-b8I_F6qBSBzcvBjFlc-wL_ZOiV2UJzSt-2gH6y_D8N8e_v3INGwwMbdKbIHraf6eha/s320/Love%20Books.jpg" width="320" /></a></i></span></div><span style="font-size: large;"><i><br /> </i><br /></span><p></p><p></p>Patricia Bradleyhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/03382033674042021556noreply@blogger.com5tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-641599238951031625.post-76467043173583066682024-03-11T07:00:00.000-07:002024-03-11T07:00:00.146-07:00THIS WEEK ON THE SUSPENSE SISTERS<span style="font-family: times; font-size: large;"><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhPOf6fhYnRe_wtEvJ-OEfv30Ge_ibgU6-69A6up5OfBE9H5GLr5eB35O8wYDO9qi93Rz_UlfAJuSPRUQVcaYhwgcSrqGjUc_Y79K8Pbh8Zail4fwXLZnT56SAASlGd7BTEVYJ9i3R21J8MJj_QRo079Sh2ZxKJPvHC_-Qjw_q7F5UyusiulKt1dyt8FrE/s400/What's%20Next%20-%20Suspense%20Sisters.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="251" data-original-width="400" height="201" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhPOf6fhYnRe_wtEvJ-OEfv30Ge_ibgU6-69A6up5OfBE9H5GLr5eB35O8wYDO9qi93Rz_UlfAJuSPRUQVcaYhwgcSrqGjUc_Y79K8Pbh8Zail4fwXLZnT56SAASlGd7BTEVYJ9i3R21J8MJj_QRo079Sh2ZxKJPvHC_-Qjw_q7F5UyusiulKt1dyt8FrE/s320/What's%20Next%20-%20Suspense%20Sisters.jpg" width="320" /></a></div><br /><b>We have exciting things planned for you this week on the Suspense Sisters! </b><br /><br /><div class="separator" style="clear: both; font-weight: bold; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjZSn2F2zicZDS_jTIeFtlClQq-iJn7ZgZzejBsD2g9buoRz5R-LG8VT2XJG4CACC3G4IDeTkcxVPMtYP9w4x6FIgqfn1MCj-tptYTNOA-a4aC6rSOXj-UXECjDCQk6JT3cNsUDtCNYl8tySaATuGZnYMuUXG6NSs-dmY1C9pH2ZG6LxL-91Oic8dio8iE/s1600/Patricia%20Bradley.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="clear: left; float: left; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1600" data-original-width="1200" height="200" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjZSn2F2zicZDS_jTIeFtlClQq-iJn7ZgZzejBsD2g9buoRz5R-LG8VT2XJG4CACC3G4IDeTkcxVPMtYP9w4x6FIgqfn1MCj-tptYTNOA-a4aC6rSOXj-UXECjDCQk6JT3cNsUDtCNYl8tySaATuGZnYMuUXG6NSs-dmY1C9pH2ZG6LxL-91Oic8dio8iE/w150-h200/Patricia%20Bradley.jpg" width="150" /></a></div><br /><b>On Tuesday, author Patricia Bradley will tell us what’s hot in inspirational suspense and mystery. </b><br /><br /><b>Wednesday, we’re interviewing author Dana R. The inspiration behind the very first book I had published over twenty years ago was a What if question. Before my first book was published, I was reading a lot of Christian fiction trying to get a feel for what was out there and I noticed a pattern. Most of the characters were pretty close to perfect, didn't have much of a faith crises and weren't prone to give into temptation. Also, the characters usually had a great relationship with their perfect parents who always gave wise advice. </p><p>It is true that we look for ourselves in the characters were find in books. We want to relate to the people we read about and feel a connection. I couldn't relate to the characters in the books I was reading. I became a Christian when I was eighteen, had not been raised in a Christian home and my father was an alcoholic. </p><p>So I started playing the what if game and going to extremes. What if your parents were far from upstanding citizens? What if in fact your mother had done jail time before becoming a Christian? What if the main character became a Christian later in life and had had a sordid history with men? </p><p>You see, when I read those books with perfect characters they sent a message that I think is a lie: that only good people who have not made any true mistakes from good families can be Christians. </p><p>Thus the first book in the Ruby Taylor mystery series was born. <b>Romance Rustlers and Thunderbird Thieves</b> is the story of Ruby and her mother getting to know each other again after the turmoil of the past in addition to being a mystery. I used a great deal of humor in the series to get the message across that God can rescue anyone from anyplace at anytime. </p><p>I think Christian fiction has come a long way in the last twenty years and now when I read novels in that genre, I find much more nuanced characters. </p><p>How about you? Do you have a favorite books series or character you relate to? Leave a comment with your email address for a chance to win a copy of <b>Romance Rustlers and Thunderbird Thieve</b>s. </p><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEj8fJ2RYUogiM0hQJVlORHbv5WS6CPQfcDlg4Qw6ApS9FZPrOLqX80wGgF5f7oLPG8p0lTo5VmhnDU2g8SIM_POx26_uyDyRla_U2B66FGbt-cFfQwEtf8GoJ2d-d3QpSEcMf2i38QLpDZ7ysfhBta-JOc16J8O9VuDOyPJ240zKSC41fjkthuIVKEs6vIM/s250/Screenshot%202023-10-03%204.35.03%20PM.png" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em; text-align: center;"><img border="0" data-original-height="229" data-original-width="250" height="229" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEj8fJ2RYUogiM0hQJVlORHbv5WS6CPQfcDlg4Qw6ApS9FZPrOLqX80wGgF5f7oLPG8p0lTo5VmhnDU2g8SIM_POx26_uyDyRla_U2B66FGbt-cFfQwEtf8GoJ2d-d3QpSEcMf2i38QLpDZ7ysfhBta-JOc16J8O9VuDOyPJ240zKSC41fjkthuIVKEs6vIM/s1600/Screenshot%202023-10-03%204.35.03%20PM.png" width="250" /></a></div><p><br /></p><p><br /></p>sharon dunnhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/04762188539273164385noreply@blogger.com16tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-641599238951031625.post-69787745726321529152024-03-06T07:00:00.000-08:002024-03-06T07:00:00.134-08:00A CHRACTER RETURNS AND A SERIES WRAPS UP<span style="font-family: times; font-size: large;"><b><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgw9D214MEqxaQv9GP7QxC92R2KNyL2b3cStEVhWW7ss6uLFv3NCJy2I_t8ebOkLaNYVwudd0dZlLzujoRW6KAESF7LB_o0va8GsRStrhswEiOEgrQrpn54AkcojdnM5TjI5Cgs_9pVdgJRYGnKkuR8GdOPbc5-jt4vecMVcVcB8EiX98xwqaaZPcATGAs/s1600/mind%20games.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="clear: left; float: left; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1600" data-original-width="1035" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgw9D214MEqxaQv9GP7QxC92R2KNyL2b3cStEVhWW7ss6uLFv3NCJy2I_t8ebOkLaNYVwudd0dZlLzujoRW6KAESF7LB_o0va8GsRStrhswEiOEgrQrpn54AkcojdnM5TjI5Cgs_9pVdgJRYGnKkuR8GdOPbc5-jt4vecMVcVcB8EiX98xwqaaZPcATGAs/s320/mind%20games.jpg" width="207" /></a></div>In 2018 my book, MIND GAMES, was released. As she proceeded to tell him what she’d deduced so far through his crimes, a figure would begin to appear. In one case, she actually solved a crime as she worked her profile. Her supervisor was able to call a police chief in another state and give him the name of the serial killer he sought. <br /><br />Kaely was an unusual character, and my readers seemed to really like her. Although usually, authors aren’t allowed to bring characters back from a previous series, my publisher gave me the go ahead. So, in an upcoming series, I will pair Erin Delaney, a police officer who left the force after a terrible, violent night in St. Louis, and then wrote a best-selling book, with the woman who helped her with research, Kaely Quinn-Hunter. <br /><br /><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgOJmrzFZJiAayox8e8WS9CjRVbG9sK3OwlRGhDyPilsuJ8q1vXXyxEAok4suYmtmxYoxfmv6Ah_J7mrHLQ_vDme71qowprWUFLukD4cSnfj77wEJyysZlqrD_IUgIlGMF9SpI1xQne_fVTlpefJnpqn3IRB9aG62EIGNopwJ05kCzLDBGdcPO_Fut6KYc/s474/Cabin%20in%20the%20woods.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="clear: right; float: right; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-left: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="248" data-original-width="474" height="167" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgOJmrzFZJiAayox8e8WS9CjRVbG9sK3OwlRGhDyPilsuJ8q1vXXyxEAok4suYmtmxYoxfmv6Ah_J7mrHLQ_vDme71qowprWUFLukD4cSnfj77wEJyysZlqrD_IUgIlGMF9SpI1xQne_fVTlpefJnpqn3IRB9aG62EIGNopwJ05kCzLDBGdcPO_Fut6KYc/s320/Cabin%20in%20the%20woods.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>Erin and Kaely meet each other in a cabin in the Smoky Mountains because Kaely is concerned about Erin and wants to help her through the trauma she’s endured. But of course, as in most of my books, evil just won’t leave my characters alone. <br /><br />The local police chief, Adrian Nightengale, asks the women for help after they discover a body in the woods that has been dressed in white and is holding a ceramic angel. He realizes that he has two of the best minds in the country to help him find the killer. But things take a turn when three more bodies are uncovered and they realize the killer has only just begun. <br /><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br /></div>I believe my readers will enjoy this series. I was an absolute klutz, but he was incredibly patient with me and some of our other friends who were skiing for the first time. <br /><br />As I wobbled in the bulky ski boots and tried not to “garage sale” (or lose both poles and skis in a wipe-out), I imagined how much more awkward the experience would have been if I were learning from my ex-boyfriend. <br /><br /><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiGB5aL6_4uHrEV97UYKsAWs-MPMORF6JZWQ-xC_bUTZfiDw8PKrF9utyEuu4spvJACHhTOuW0KdcgK4n5A7fk9Lv5a_wngYiWHSwbMsVXKbxqbGih5VGBMz8Pk5m_o9LQJJaUkS4FeP6abrfuckB-n3yrEiCsoCr1IJE7EGFmvN9uiyCXP87IVqb-PzJg/s2556/Take%20My%20Hand%20-%20Kristen%20Hogrefe%20Pernell.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="clear: left; float: left; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="2556" data-original-width="1657" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiGB5aL6_4uHrEV97UYKsAWs-MPMORF6JZWQ-xC_bUTZfiDw8PKrF9utyEuu4spvJACHhTOuW0KdcgK4n5A7fk9Lv5a_wngYiWHSwbMsVXKbxqbGih5VGBMz8Pk5m_o9LQJJaUkS4FeP6abrfuckB-n3yrEiCsoCr1IJE7EGFmvN9uiyCXP87IVqb-PzJg/s320/Take%20My%20Hand%20-%20Kristen%20Hogrefe%20Pernell.jpg" width="207" /></a></div>Just like that, part of my premise for Take My Hand was born. My heroine Kaley does indeed learn to ski from her ex-boyfriend on a trip that shatters her relational expectations and introduces a level of danger she never imagined her job as a trauma therapist could generate. <br /><br />Memorable life experiences make good writing material, but so do challenging ones. The fact that I was single into my early thirties was a hard pill to swallow. I didn’t understand why God asked me to wait to meet my husband, but I trusted He had a plan. That struggle is one that I share with my hero Liam Bracken in my second Crossroads Suspense novel, Hold Your Breath. <br /><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjiT9mC-iCv3Sj6ezNppuFhbhOktAUjU5Z9dZBULalfLOvPGMA68pC-Kr1fCHthvrYqWkyBwQ2iMumGvq9B-06f2tsJIWI8dpgZSG8LM4tQsYaLNNnKvgMuNjpu00omyz8VEc5a4RB5hkNUk4fNetwJxstDtdqA420SK0ie55uia2kSD0ixSOG2CF0duXk/s2556/Hold%20Your%20Breath_Bk2%20Cover.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="clear: right; float: right; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-left: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="2556" data-original-width="1657" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjiT9mC-iCv3Sj6ezNppuFhbhOktAUjU5Z9dZBULalfLOvPGMA68pC-Kr1fCHthvrYqWkyBwQ2iMumGvq9B-06f2tsJIWI8dpgZSG8LM4tQsYaLNNnKvgMuNjpu00omyz8VEc5a4RB5hkNUk4fNetwJxstDtdqA420SK0ie55uia2kSD0ixSOG2CF0duXk/s320/Hold%20Your%20Breath_Bk2%20Cover.jpg" width="207" /></a></div><br />As a writer, I try not to waste my experiences but use them to make more believable characters and relatable conflicts. Doing so gives me an even greater respect for the Author of my life, my Lord Jesus Christ, who orchestrates all my experiences for a reason. I love this rhetorical question by Elisabeth Elliot: “Is anything offered to Christ ever wasted?” <br /><br />The answer, of course, is no. God doesn’t waste our hurt, sufferings, or wipe-outs. We can offer them back to Him and trust Him for some purpose in them, even if we may never understand it. We can also offer Him our joys, celebrations, and successes, knowing He uses those in our lives too. <br /><br />As a writer, that thought brings me so much comfort. I can offer my Lord all my experiences—and all my stories—and trust Him to make of them whatever He sees best. Nothing wasted. <br /><br />What is one of your life experiences you think would make great book material? Attack</span></i></b> a few months ago, the first book in the Pearl River
series, I have been so excited, anticipating book 2 of the series. I was not
disappointed.</div><p></p><p class="MsoNormal"><o:p></o:p></p>
<p class="MsoNormal"><b style="mso-bidi-font-weight: normal;"><i style="mso-bidi-font-style: normal;"><span style="font-variant: small-caps;">Fatal Witness</span></i></b>
starts off like a rocket. I was gripped from the first sentence from the
perspective of a frightened child. The twists and turns in this story carried
me along like a roller coaster. And I love how Patricia Bradley teases with
false security from time to time. <o:p></o:p></p>
<p class="MsoNormal"></p><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEikJOM63v8QQtMIPcgxzpctjI7cpo5AInpHgF8rdosmPbd7UESvaeyqKkhAOBYL2DIe3FbPexhh9doh4o1xlU3XZHDpKWyhje_BSXaa5tAwuEOsSqDzLRpd-iDxtCeA2jfMcYBnp1a6SkvaF919gNWyTp4kjZgAocMtV1P-XHrLL63Ja6SlHNRQ3UNEMAxf/s2275/Patricia%20Bradley.jpeg" style="clear: left; float: left; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="2275" data-original-width="1977" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEikJOM63v8QQtMIPcgxzpctjI7cpo5AInpHgF8rdosmPbd7UESvaeyqKkhAOBYL2DIe3FbPexhh9doh4o1xlU3XZHDpKWyhje_BSXaa5tAwuEOsSqDzLRpd-iDxtCeA2jfMcYBnp1a6SkvaF919gNWyTp4kjZgAocMtV1P-XHrLL63Ja6SlHNRQ3UNEMAxf/s320/Patricia%20Bradley.jpeg" width="278" /></a></div>She has a rhythm to her writing that gives just enough
tension before allowing for a breath. I found myself heaving great sighs at the
end of each suspenseful scene. <o:p></o:p><p></p>
<p class="MsoNormal">The characters of Danielle Bennet and Mark Lassiter are
strong protagonists, especially against a large cast of possible enemies. And
yes, I think I had almost everyone on my suspect list at one time or other. And
no, I didn’t see the ending coming! Well done, Patricia Bradley! <o:p></o:p></p>
<p class="MsoNormal"></p>However, I have to mention some charming secondary characters
who practically stole the show. Gem, the German Shepherd police dog who belongs
to Mark is delightfully playful when she’s not “working.” And Lizi, Dani’s Puli,
is intriguing. I had to stop and find pictures of a Puli to fully see this dog
in my mind’s eye. They really do resemble a group of four mops with a moppish
head. I have no idea how they see through all of those dreadlocks, but they are
darling! Patricia Bradley has a talent for details that makes her stories come
to life in a unique way! <o:p></o:p><p></p>
<p class="MsoNormal">I would be remiss if I didn’t mention one other character
– so detailed in her description that I feel I know her. Mae Richmond is a septuagenarian
potter who insists on living alone in her mountain home above Pearl Springs.
She’s firey and direct, but full of compassion and devotion for her friends and
family. What a spark to add to this story! I LOVED her. <o:p></o:p></p>
<p class="MsoNormal">In fact, I loved everything about this story. Except when I
got to the end and there was no more to read! I’m anxiously awaiting book 3
from Pearl Springs! <o:p></o:p></p>

Witness:<o:p></o:p></span></i></b><p></p>
<p class="MsoNormal" style="margin-left: 0.5in;">As a child, artist and potter Dani
Bennett witnessed the brutal murder of her parents. With no memory of the
incident or her true identity, she was forced to take on a new name and a new
life, hidden away in Montana for the past 25 years.<br />
<br />
Mae Richmond has spent the same stretch of time searching for her
granddaughter, who went missing the night her daughter and son-in-law were
murdered. Convinced the woman she saw in a pottery magazine feature is the
woman she's been searching for, she enlists the help of K-9 officer Mark
Lassiter of Pearl Springs, Tennessee, who tracks Dani down.<br />
<br />
Skeptical but curious, Dani sets out on a journey to uncover the secrets of her
past and reclaim her true identity. But someone close to her is determined to
keep the truth of what happened all those years ago hidden.<o:p></o:p></p>
<p class="MsoNormal"><b style="mso-bidi-font-weight: normal;"><i style="mso-bidi-font-style: normal;"><span style="font-variant: small-caps;">Fatal Witness </span></i></b><span style="mso-bidi-font-style: italic; mso-bidi-font-weight: bold;">is available in e-book
as well as paperback and also as an Audible audiobook. I highly recommend the
audiobook! Tantor Audio always does an outstanding job on their books and
narrator, Ann Richardson, is downright brilliant with her renderings of the
characters! <o:p></o:p></span></p>

I've been super excited about this one for several reasons, one of those reasons being how much I love the two leads, Phillip Campbell and Thalia Renner.</span></p><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjgWtLuLXhIVsYMdybvvdQvpqNX_9A8CYvzjBO3CtbOxZL-xOXUoTHW6wXlQ_SBrPJH2hoT7W5dc8f-XJKjPqoY1Uj2qNLVwHElfVm_FOvQvFzfeCROSStk9QfknSXQNAK2x-FUJ031zwAyigt8Iezjh7M6CoywYcJN8ze8hmJDSsRsgraoqDKb4GNEtmN2/s2780/1708031189.png" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><span style="font-family: verdana; font-size: medium;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1840" data-original-width="2780" height="212" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjgWtLuLXhIVsYMdybvvdQvpqNX_9A8CYvzjBO3CtbOxZL-xOXUoTHW6wXlQ_SBrPJH2hoT7W5dc8f-XJKjPqoY1Uj2qNLVwHElfVm_FOvQvFzfeCROSStk9QfknSXQNAK2x-FUJ031zwAyigt8Iezjh7M6CoywYcJN8ze8hmJDSsRsgraoqDKb4GNEtmN2/w320-h212/1708031189.png" width="320" /></span></a></div><span style="font-family: verdana; font-size: medium;">I am very much a seat-of-the-pants writer. (I heard author Ramona Richards call it an "organic writer" once, and I honestly think that makes me sound so much more sophisticated.) My publisher requires me to write a synopsis, which is anywhere from 5-7 pages long and is a summary of what is going to happen in the book. Here's a fun fact: my books pretty much never go the way that synopsis says they're going to go. Somewhere around chapter five, I get a much better idea of who my characters are and how this thing should work, then off we go into uncharted territory. (Fortunately, I have a very patient and understanding editor.)</span><div><span style="font-family: verdana; font-size: medium;"><br /></span></div><div><span style="font-family: verdana; font-size: medium;">The beauty of this is that new characters are born and new book ideas are formed because I took off on a winding detour. If you've read the <i>Fatal Response/Mistaken Twin/Hidden Twin/Fatal Identity</i> grouping of books, you witnessed this with Alex "Rich" Richardson. He had a very minor--and tragic--role in Fatal Response, but then he just kept seeming to pop up until I decided he needed to have a happily ever after of his own. That, and I got several reader letters asking if I was planning to tell his story. So, hey, if you wonder if we're listening to our readers, we definitely are. Rich's story was a bit of a gift to those who asked for more of him. </span></div><div><span style="font-family: verdana; font-size: medium;"><br /></span></div><div><span style="font-family: verdana; font-size: medium;">A similar thing happened here. When I was writing <i>Captured at Christmas</i>, Thalia and Phillip showed up to help out with the investigation. Thalia jumped right in and stole one scene right away from me. She was so confident, so straight-shooting, so sarcastic... I loved her attitude. (Also, I had to rewrite that scene and tone her down because she kind of forgot it wasn't all about her...) In <i>Deadly Vengeance</i>, her chemistry with Phillip really started to shine, and Phillip even dropped a hint that he might be a little more interested in his partner than it seemed on the surface. </span></div><div><span style="font-family: verdana; font-size: medium;"><br /></span></div><div><span style="font-family: verdana; font-size: medium;">Yep, I wanted to see what happened if I threw these two investigative partners and best friends into a scenario where they had to pretend to be so much more. What did I do? Assigned them to an undercover operation that had them pretending to be a married couple. And I did it in a way that gave them very little downtime away from the act. </span></div><div><span style="font-family: verdana; font-size: medium;"><br /></span></div><div><span style="font-family: verdana; font-size: medium;">What happened? </span></div><div><span style="font-family: verdana; font-size: medium;"><br /></span></div><div><span style="font-family: verdana; font-size: medium;">Ah, see? You'll have to read to find out, though I'm sure you can guess. I'll choose a winner on Tuesday, February 27th by 9:00 AM Eastern time. Oh, and my favorite fictional hero? Why it's Westley, aka The Dread Pirate Roberts, from my all time favorite movie, "The Princess Bride." </span></div>Jodie Baileyhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/16290413261266097997noreply@blogger.com16tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-641599238951031625.post-73825089024081744502024-02-20T23:00:00.000-08:002024-02-20T23:00:00.244-08:00WHEN PLANS GO AWRY<p> <span style="font-family: verdana;">By Patricia Bradley</span></p><p><span style="font-family: verdana;"><br /></span></p><p><span style="font-family: verdana; font-size: medium;">I had planned to write this post yesterday...and should have. Today I'm writing it with a brace on my wrist, a very badly swollen right eye that is turning a glorious shade of purple trending to black...and an ice pack on said eye. And I have a television interview at the National Religious Broadcasters Conference...</span></p><p><span style="font-family: verdana; font-size: medium;">So far I haven't canceled the interview or driving to Nashville to the conference tomorrow. Satan isn't winning this one! I did get checked out at the hospital and everything looked fine. One friend even suggested I do the interview and tell them they should see the other guy. </span></p><p><span style="font-family: verdana; font-size: medium;">So you might be wondering how I happened to have a black eye--that's what happens when you kiss the concrete with your head. I actually stumbled over a curve when I was cleaning up my car at the car wash...note to self...watch where you're walking.</span></p><p><span style="font-family: verdana; font-size: medium;">And while I know it was my fault for not watching, I think satan would be very happy for me not to attend the conference since the platform I'll be speaking on is Christian Fiction's Role in the World. My books often cross over to the general market and therefore they reach a wide audience with the Gospel. </span></p><p><span style="font-family: verdana; font-size: medium;">There is a silver lining--I don't have to wear eye shadow today. So, if you happen to think about me, I could use prayer for divine appointments and wisdom about the interview....</span></p><p><span style="font-family: verdana; font-size: medium;">Leave a comment -- tell me if you've ever had a black eye, and I'll enter you in a drawing for an audio copy of Fatal Witness! And if you've won a copy of <i><a href="https://ptbradley.com/books/fatal-witness/" target="_blank">Fatal Witness</a></i>, I will get them out next week as soon as I turn in edits of <i>Deadly Revenge</i>, the next book in the series!</span></p><p></p><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://ptbradley.com/books/fatal-witness/" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;" target="_blank"><img border="0" data-original-height="580" data-original-width="580" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjUj1Gt8YykbONFrA6T_cSkqK4dItsSloCUFddoC_UudVp5bLyK5fxKxu3zH5hLi52UCRnnXk5rQYEHikOQq-xu2a9cxb6jjYmr4naOuOsppDI9fCh2mzgFHyf7hhvdZj9tG_FCu4SsTfJz4zL8qKFUVf_CzMtOvUA6QQ7WZfagjA0NHWFVpW8omlvorYRZ/s320/AUDIO%20Fatal%20Witness.jpg" width="320" /></a></div><br /><span style="font-family: verdana; font-size: medium;"><br /></span><p></p>Patricia Bradleyhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/03382033674042021556noreply@blogger.com23tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-641599238951031625.post-67573035675777647322024-02-19T23:00:00.000-08:002024-02-20T08:44:34.050-08:00What's Hot in Inspirational Suspense<p> <span style="font-family: verdana; font-size: large;"> by Patricia Bradley</span></p><p><span style="font-family: verdana; font-size: medium;">Wondering what's <span style="color: red;">HOT</span> in Inspy fiction this week? Least favorite?</b></p><p dir="ltr" style="line-height: 1.2; margin-bottom: 0pt; margin-top: 0pt;"><span style="background-color: transparent; color: black; font-family: "Times New Roman", serif; font-size: 12pt; font-style: normal; font-variant-alternates: normal; font-variant-caps: normal; font-variant-east-asian: normal; font-variant-ligatures: normal; font-variant-numeric: normal; font-variant-position: normal; font-weight: 400; text-decoration: none; vertical-align: baseline; white-space: pre-wrap;">My favorite part about writing is doing research. I proudly embrace my inner nerd. While many use research to find answers, I use it to fuel imagination and feed curiosity. I start with books, documentaries, and such to learn facts, culture, and history about the time and places in the story. This information leads to character and plot development. </span></p><p dir="ltr" style="line-height: 1.2; margin-bottom: 0pt; margin-top: 0pt;"><span style="background-color: transparent; color: black; font-family: "Times New Roman", serif; font-size: 12pt; font-style: normal; font-variant-alternates: normal; font-variant-caps: normal; font-variant-east-asian: normal; font-variant-ligatures: normal; font-variant-numeric: normal; font-variant-position: normal; font-weight: 400; text-decoration: none; vertical-align: baseline; white-space: pre-wrap;"><br /></span></p><p dir="ltr" style="line-height: 1.2; margin-bottom: 0pt; margin-top: 0pt;"><span style="background-color: transparent; color: black; font-family: "Times New Roman", serif; font-size: 12pt; font-style: normal; font-variant-alternates: normal; font-variant-caps: normal; font-variant-east-asian: normal; font-variant-ligatures: normal; font-variant-numeric: normal; font-variant-position: normal; font-weight: 400; text-decoration: none; vertical-align: baseline; white-space: pre-wrap;">After that comes immersion research, like interviewing experts and gaining hands-on experience.</span></p><p dir="ltr" style="line-height: 1.2; margin-bottom: 0pt; margin-top: 0pt;"><span style="background-color: transparent; color: black; font-family: "Times New Roman", serif; font-size: 12pt; font-style: normal; font-variant-alternates: normal; font-variant-caps: normal; font-variant-east-asian: normal; font-variant-ligatures: normal; font-variant-numeric: normal; font-variant-position: normal; font-weight: 400; text-decoration: none; vertical-align: baseline; white-space: pre-wrap;">Hands-on experience allows me to capture accurate sensory details to draw the reader deeper into the story as if experiencing events as the character does. Whether it’s flying a plane or firing a handgun, get the details right.</span></p><p dir="ltr" style="line-height: 1.2; margin-bottom: 0pt; margin-top: 0pt;"><span style="background-color: transparent; color: black; font-family: "Times New Roman", serif; font-size: 12pt; font-style: normal; font-variant-alternates: normal; font-variant-caps: normal; font-variant-east-asian: normal; font-variant-ligatures: normal; font-variant-numeric: normal; font-variant-position: normal; font-weight: 400; text-decoration: none; vertical-align: baseline; white-space: pre-wrap;"><br /></span></p><p dir="ltr" style="line-height: 1.2; margin-bottom: 0pt; margin-top: 0pt;"><span style="background-color: transparent; color: black; font-family: "Times New Roman", serif; font-size: 12pt; font-style: normal; font-variant-alternates: normal; font-variant-caps: normal; font-variant-east-asian: normal; font-variant-ligatures: normal; font-variant-numeric: normal; font-variant-position: normal; font-weight: 400; text-decoration: none; vertical-align: baseline; white-space: pre-wrap;">My least favorite part about writing is proofreading. After reading and editing the manuscript umpteen times, I can’t see what’s really on the page. My mind sees what it expects to see, so it skips over missing or misplaced words. My mind will also ignore an overused word because, at some point, I get tired of reading the same story over and over and over. Great editors are treasures.</span></p><p dir="ltr" style="line-height: 1.2; margin-bottom: 0pt; margin-top: 0pt;"><span style="background-color: transparent; color: black; font-family: "Times New Roman", serif; font-size: 12pt; font-style: normal; font-variant-alternates: normal; font-variant-caps: normal; font-variant-east-asian: normal; font-variant-ligatures: normal; font-variant-numeric: normal; font-variant-position: normal; font-weight: 400; text-decoration: none; vertical-align: baseline; white-space: pre-wrap;"><br /></span></p><p dir="ltr" style="line-height: 1.2; margin-bottom: 0pt; margin-top: 0pt;"><span style="background-color: transparent; color: black; font-family: "Times New Roman", serif; font-size: 12pt; font-style: normal; font-variant-alternates: normal; font-variant-caps: normal; font-variant-east-asian: normal; font-variant-ligatures: normal; font-variant-numeric: normal; font-variant-position: normal; text-decoration: none; vertical-align: baseline; white-space: pre-wrap;"><b>Pantser or Plotter?</b></span></p><p dir="ltr" style="line-height: 1.2; margin-bottom: 0pt; margin-top: 0pt;"><span style="background-color: transparent; color: black; font-family: "Times New Roman", serif; font-size: 12pt; font-style: normal; font-variant-alternates: normal; font-variant-caps: normal; font-variant-east-asian: normal; font-variant-ligatures: normal; font-variant-numeric: normal; font-variant-position: normal; text-decoration: none; vertical-align: baseline; white-space: pre-wrap;"><b><br /></b></span></p><p dir="ltr" style="line-height: 1.2; margin-bottom: 0pt; margin-top: 0pt;"><span style="background-color: transparent; color: black; font-family: "Times New Roman", serif; font-size: 12pt; font-style: normal; font-variant-alternates: normal; font-variant-caps: normal; font-variant-east-asian: normal; font-variant-ligatures: normal; font-variant-numeric: normal; font-variant-position: normal; font-weight: 400; text-decoration: none; vertical-align: baseline; white-space: pre-wrap;">I am a plotter. We gave up on going out for Valentine's dinner long, long ago because a crowded restaurant just isn't appealing, especially during the height of cold and flu season. </span></p><p><span style="font-size: medium;">A good romantic movie always sounds nice, though. One of my favorites is the Colin Firth version of Pride and Prejudice, which I've watched too many times to count! Do you have some favorites to recommend? I would love to hear about them.</span></p><p><span style="font-size: medium;">The weeks between Thanksgiving and New Year's always fly past. Does that happen to you, as well? We have <i>four</i> family birthdays that fall within two weeks of Christmas, making that time even more special. And busy!</span></p><p><span style="font-size: medium;"></span></p><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><span style="font-size: medium;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEijwwaYAa7jFQlA5NyG4IO4Kf1TWnMJD5sC4EzbFk2fldCMWs-VXBJjGe7RXxve9D8XLD9lJabWrOwbe6XJjmZQe-Nc5mRKoImgdujXuE8dlTLCRwG2Emc5E93eXkByEtwu4AGsBAk955GAC-yCOdekbE0GseUF9gQd1YbLyGlcOe_NIPqM9QqFC2jZemjE/s3750/%20%20%20%20%20%20IMPROVED_COVER_DEADeadly%20Evidence.jpeg" imageanchor="1" style="clear: left; float: left; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="3750" data-original-width="2499" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEijwwaYAa7jFQlA5NyG4IO4Kf1TWnMJD5sC4EzbFk2fldCMWs-VXBJjGe7RXxve9D8XLD9lJabWrOwbe6XJjmZQe-Nc5mRKoImgdujXuE8dlTLCRwG2Emc5E93eXkByEtwu4AGsBAk955GAC-yCOdekbE0GseUF9gQd1YbLyGlcOe_NIPqM9QqFC2jZemjE/s320/%20%20%20%20%20%20IMPROVED_COVER_DEADeadly%20Evidence.jpeg" width="213" /></a></span></div><span style="font-size: medium;"><br />But come January 1st, I always launch back into long days in my home office. The old saying "Do what you love, and you'll never work a day in your life" is so true. Writing fills me joy. <br /><br />What fills you with joy? </span><p></p><p><span style="font-size: medium;">One thing that <i>doesn't</i> fill me with joy is the endless task of trying to winnow through a lifetime of possessions. </span></p><p><span style="font-size: medium;">Though we have no plans to move, I have a dream of downsizing. My husband is a minimalist, while I'm a very sentimental saver--probably stemming from being in a long series of foster care homes from birth until I turned three, and it's hard for me to "let go." </span></p><p><span style="font-size: medium;">The book "The Gentle Art of Swedish Death Cleaning" inspires me, though. </span></p><p><span style="font-size: medium;">Yet, despite never-ending trips to donate at our local Treasures (a shop that supports young parents), Olivet Mission (where everything is free for those in need), and Salvation Army, it seems as if I barely make a dent. Are you a saver too, or are you more of a minimalist? I could sure use your advice!</span></p><p><span style="font-size: medium;"></span></p><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><span style="font-size: medium;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiCpziaxAKX_MFdil6IbDP8KrjJWY6hWPy2Zeuz_3F69zSIVkXyBGGBmT1JB5NLtG0zzHqOvw0chMjctP3OhKnhluL_LM8l-s1mB56SALQG8d_qWq1m-VfCa9jPgxdTAL0c2qKe8UHgE6LGAXrNmCry7oolCS66BdyBE8zzMRdFtzh9-CSBP272iipyKE2Y/s3545/KALONA%20SALE.jpeg" imageanchor="1" style="clear: left; float: left; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="2702" data-original-width="3545" height="244" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiCpziaxAKX_MFdil6IbDP8KrjJWY6hWPy2Zeuz_3F69zSIVkXyBGGBmT1JB5NLtG0zzHqOvw0chMjctP3OhKnhluL_LM8l-s1mB56SALQG8d_qWq1m-VfCa9jPgxdTAL0c2qKe8UHgE6LGAXrNmCry7oolCS66BdyBE8zzMRdFtzh9-CSBP272iipyKE2Y/s320/KALONA%20SALE.jpeg" width="320" /></a></span></div><span style="font-size: medium;"><br />Last week, my husband and I went to a draft horse sale in Kalona, a very small town in an Amish and Mennonite area nearby. </span><p></p><p><span style="font-size: medium;">The Amish help run the sale and are big sellers and buyers, though the license plates in the parking lot were from states coast to coast. we pour blood sweat and tears into every page of our stories in the hopes that
our readers fall in love with our characters and want to follow us along on the
journey. What you, as readers, see is the results of months if not years of outlining
the story, creating character profiles for each of our protagonists,
researching the perfect setting that fits the storyline, digging into the mind
of the bad guy to see what makes him tick, and writing and rewriting more times
than we care to admit. <o:p></o:p></span></p>
<p class="MsoNormal"><span style="font-size: 14.0pt; line-height: 107%;">When the
finished work is done, most of the time, it doesn’t look anything like what it
did in our minds.<o:p></o:p></span></p>
<p class="MsoNormal"><span style="font-size: 14.0pt; line-height: 107%;">But did you
know many times there are hidden gems inside a story that are personal for the
author? Little glimpses into our lives even. <span style="mso-spacerun: yes;"> </span><o:p></o:p></span></p>
<p class="MsoNormal"><span style="font-size: 14.0pt; line-height: 107%;">For
instance, most of my heroes are patterned after my husband, Monte. He’s strong
and courageous. Kind and giving. And my best friend. Jonas Knowles from Deadly
Mountain represents all those things. <span style="mso-spacerun: yes;"> </span><o:p></o:p></span></p>
<p class="MsoNormal"><span style="font-size: 14.0pt; line-height: 107%;">The setting
for the book is the Tobacco Root Mountains of Montana. As most of you know, I’m
a huge fan of the mountains. And have been ever since I visited them for the
first time over twenty years ago when my hubby and I vacationed in Red River,
NM and loved it. Since then, most of our trips have been centered around the
mountains. <span style="mso-spacerun: yes;"> </span><o:p></o:p></span></p>
<p class="MsoNormal"><span style="font-size: 14.0pt; line-height: 107%;">It’s one of
the reasons why I love the TV series, Mountain Men. And thanks to Mountain Men,
I found the perfect setting for Deadly Mountain Escape. <o:p></o:p></span></p>
<p class="MsoNormal"><span style="font-size: 14.0pt; line-height: 107%;">One of the show’s
cast lives in the Tobacco Root Mountains of Montana. When I heard the name of
the mountain chain, I knew I had to write a story that takes place there one
day. And so, the beginning of Deadly Mountain Escape was born. At least the
setting for it. The story itself came a little later.<o:p></o:p></span></p><p class="MsoNormal"></p><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEh2ttebM5n_U5MfX4p-RRmKE5-l02mAadT0ywoLjrVsAszZ2cBgV_TK60g04iCwlQQL6oq3z5F37ufSWSbzhhP1ceCHQBtWbocLm9XbVOrqW6hJi03lBoLqsJ9bU0BtPjDUhNKoJ72dXXbsqdcQi3GP0pKzZwru1TJwQPpQokwLSko-E9kBNJXz78tUYF8/s1640/Meet%20Annie.png" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="924" data-original-width="1640" height="180" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEh2ttebM5n_U5MfX4p-RRmKE5-l02mAadT0ywoLjrVsAszZ2cBgV_TK60g04iCwlQQL6oq3z5F37ufSWSbzhhP1ceCHQBtWbocLm9XbVOrqW6hJi03lBoLqsJ9bU0BtPjDUhNKoJ72dXXbsqdcQi3GP0pKzZwru1TJwQPpQokwLSko-E9kBNJXz78tUYF8/s320/Meet%20Annie.png" width="320" /></a></div><br /><span style="font-size: 14.0pt; line-height: 107%;"><br /></span><p></p>
<p class="MsoNormal"><span style="font-size: 14.0pt; line-height: 107%;">In the book,
there’s a K-9 search and rescue dog who is the partner of Deputy Charlotte
Walker. When I created Annie, I used a dog from my past as the role model.
While Callie is no longer with us, she is the embodiment of the fictional
Annie. Loving. Loyal. Fiercely protective. And tough as nails.<o:p></o:p></span></p>
<p class="MsoNormal"><span style="font-size: 14.0pt; line-height: 107%;">Callie was
definitely the alpha dog of our two dogs. Tyson, our sweet Boxer knew his place
and respected Callie’s authority. Callie’s loyalty wasn’t just limited to my
husband and myself. There were several times when she was forced to come to
Tyson’s aide to get him out of a pickle. So, in a way, she was his hero, too.<span style="mso-spacerun: yes;"> </span><o:p></o:p></span></p>
<p class="MsoNormal"><span style="font-size: 14.0pt; line-height: 107%;">Although
Annie is a bluetick coonhound and Callie was a Boxer/Rhodesian Ridgeback mix,
when I think about Annie, it’s Callie I see and miss.<o:p></o:p></span></p>
<p class="MsoNormal"><span style="font-size: 14.0pt; line-height: 107%;">As authors, the
characters we create and the stories they live in become part of us because
they are us. <o:p></o:p></span></p>
<p class="MsoNormal"><span style="font-size: 14.0pt; line-height: 107%;">When you
read Deadly Mountain Escape, I hope you remember these little tidbits of my
life that are hidden inside its pages, and I hope they make you smile. And
maybe make the story a bit more special because of it.<o:p></o:p></span></p>
<p class="MsoNormal"><span style="font-size: 14.0pt; line-height: 107%;">Have you
ever fallen in love with a location you visited and thought “that would make
the perfect setting for a book?”, or have you read about a setting and wanted
to visit it because of how well the author portrayed it? <o:p></o:p></span></p>
<p class="MsoNormal"><span style="font-size: 14.0pt; line-height: 107%;">Leave a
comment for a chance to win a copy of Deadly Mountain Escape. Be sure to
include your email address. I’ll announce the winner soon. <span style="mso-spacerun: yes;"> </span><o:p></o:p></span></p>

time, blessings and happy reading dear friends. . .<o:p></o:p></span></p>
